Open File PDF files may need to be updated to the final versions? #39

Open File 8892 and Open File 8902 PDF files hosted on this git repository probably need to be updated to the final versions found on GEOSCAN / https://publications.gc.ca/ ?

The latest (final?) versions may be viewed directly in the web browser from:

or downloaded as ZIP from:

Caveat:

Thanks!

The easiest solution may be to just remove those files or rename them as clearly draft versions. It's probably best to route people through Geoscan to access openfiles, and indeed they're already referenced in the readmes. But if we want them here, then yes I think we should just update to the final pdfs.

Hey Tiegan (@tieganh), thank you for looking into this!

I have been wondering where these files came from, though did have a vague memory of a conversation in our Slack workspace, and finally found the following conversation initiated by Murray (@mjourneay) in the #github-pages channel:

Murray Journeay [9:31 AM] Hi there - I’m checking in to ask if it might be possible to include the summary and full technical reports for the Physical Exposure and Social Vulnerability models to the download page for Human Settlement Layers on GitHub? The reports are not accessible on OpenData portal, and can only be accessed through GeoScan by downloading the full datasets (~360Mb). It would be helpful to provide a direct link to both reports without having to download the data.

If so, I can pass along the final versions of the reports with the cover pages. Thanks…

Damon Ulmi [9:33 AM] We can do that, shouldn't be a problem.

Murray Journeay [4:10 PM] Awesome- thanks for your support. Here is a download link to the files:

  1. Physical Exposure (OF8892): [obsolete Dropbox link]
  2. Social Vulnerability (OF8902): [obsolete Dropbox link]

For each of the reports, there is a thumbnail image of the title page (if needed), a short ~10 page overview, and the full technical report for those who want to dig into the details. I have compressed the files to make them easier to download. It would be helpful if there was a separate link for the overview and full technical reports.

Please let me know if here is anything I can do assist at my end. It looks like you all are doing amazing work (as always) and I look forward to catching up when the opportunity rolls around.

Damon (@DamonU2) prepared the following pull request:

which include the summaries and full reports for OF 8892 and OF 8902. Drew (@drotheram) approved it, and @DamonU2 merged it, all on the same day.

Murray Journeay [10:02 PM] Thanks - much appreciated!!!

Indeed, these files that Murray provided are the final versions, as in the main text are identical to those found on GEOSCAN and Government of Canada Publications, with the addition of the beautiful cover pages, but with the "XXXX" Open File and DOI number placeholders partially updated.

Both of your suggestions are great, thank you! Let's discuss more in Slack. 😊
