Working session proposal: building the ecosystem of interoperable tools #2

You work on an open data standard. It secures adoption. But there may be few tools that fully implement it, or only prototype platforms that work with a limited set of the available standardised data. Sound familiar? This session will be asking how do we get from standards, to standards supported by open, accessible and re-usable tools?

What is the goal of the session

This session would convene a discussion on strategies to support creation of re-usable tools that implement specific open data standards. Informed by recent work on mapping available tools for the Open Contracting Data Standard, bounty programmes, innovation challenges and data use funds, the goal of this session would be to identify actions that can be taken to encourage a virtuous cycle of standards and tools.

How many people do you anticipate taking part?

5 - 15 people. This session is designed to support learning exchange across standards, and will be open to anyone with experiences or ideas to share.

+1. Can contribute to what role open source platforms like CKAN can do to accelerate data standards adoption by incorporating support out-of-the-box (e.g. data packages, etc.), or by creating installable extensions to support various standards (e.g. ckanext-dcat for DCAT and schema.org).
