Project idea #2

Hi there! I uploaded some pictures and a rhino 3d model in the branch I called binjip01.

That's my idea for the project: a circular shape to be combined with every floor outlet (especially those located in the "high-trafic" area). I thought it could be useful to have some of them to avoid people stumbling in cables and outlets' lids.

The base is equipped with a spring, a pipe and a flag at the top to indicate the potential danger.

The name is inspired by the golf game. Bin-jip is taken from the omonimous korean movie, but it could be changed into "3-iron", which suits better to our shape and the first inspiration.

With the current design, the metal lid of the outlet must be removed. Everything should be kept in place by plugging the plugs in the sockets, but we could even design something to "recycle" the original lid as an anchor point.

Except the spring and the pipe, everything can be 3d printed (that's something I still miss, at least in class) or laser cut.

If you agree with the idea, I need help to better define the shape, in particular the base to link the vertical components. We could even produce a new lid to avoid dust and other stuff slipping into the sockets. I have something in mind, like a triple-fake-plug with a ring at the top or holes like a bowling ball, but any suggestion will be appreciated.

I await feedback. Regards!

hahaha 3-iron is cool, you should all check it out during this holiday. I like the fact that you focused on the every-day problem and electric outlet indeed is annoying in general. I think solving the problem through the 'interaction design' perspective might be tricky though, lets think about ittt

Eric, i like your idea! i think it can solve this problem! i'm downloading your rhino file!

this is a good problem to solve!! i like your Rhino sketch, but i think that doesn't solve all problem!! if you have a big electric plug? o if you need more then 3?
but i like the idea!! i try to explain my tesis in a Rhino sketch..

I had different solutions in mind, but not all of them were achievable by a one-day production. The sketch is a starting point, I could even develop it entirely, but this would mean we're failing the teamwork project... that's why I wanted to push, involving you all.

I'm very happy you appreciate the idea. Now you can start proposing, modifying, etc. So, let's do it! ;) The number of elements of the base can be reduced, let's say we can remove 3 where the cables should lay, maintaining the position of the others.

If you think there is not enough space for bigger plugs (e.g. with adaptor), we can change the inner diameter of the shape. How are we keeping together the vertical pieces?
