Hello, I know cups support not very good idea for this project but if you have time or just interest about it could you help? For example you can tell me how are you doing complicated packages? Do you have any distro you are looking for while making your packages? Or maybe you can make it cups package and share from here?

this is forum discussion: http://www.openelec.tv/forum/20-development-discussion/16633-re-cups-printing-system

Thank you, Best regards. queeup

This would go into the extremely unlikely, benefits few, increases size for all, pile.

If it could be done as a optional service addon then its possible. I wouldn't hold your breath for team OE to do it and would investiate a user submitted addon.

Yes I know. But it can be optional. default not installed or compiled. Also optional service addon fine. Problem is like I told making package is not easy. Developers help needed o this :(

I've done two addon packages (mysql server and fceux). The problem is there isn't proper documentation, so you'll just have to mimic the existing packages and hope for the best. And I'm not sure how welcome this kind of additions are. (Actually I'm not sure at all what kind of contributions to openelec are welcome at all, and I'm referring to the samba password thing with this...)

But anyway for one approach to this, see my github repo at https://github.com/viljoviitanen/Openelec-addons

Cups should be pretty similar to mysql. Luckily tho the cross compiling fixes to mysql were already done... dunno how cups is in this regard.

The crux of this whole problem as viljoviitanen points out is we need someone to write a proper developer guide on the various XBMC addon techniques with specific reference to OpenELEC.

I strongly suspect once this is done many more things like this will become trivial.

Its a major information shortfall and probably the most needed document we have.

Any takers to own this project as whilst we will get around to it this will not be any time soon?

I vote to close this one. I strongly think CUPS is a world of pain we just don't need. If someone wants it so bad they can code it and do a PR and then support it.

I think from the beginning it was a bad idea :) Closing.
