azilber commented 9 years ago

The way the video was encoded is definitely an issue, but still, a crappy encoding shouldn't cause a crash...

fritsch commented 9 years ago

Jep - fully right. OE has no one anymore that is working on the IMX decoder ... so it is unlikely someone will fix that for you. I - for my part - have stopped writing IMX code completely. The platform is not future proof and vendor support is barely existing.

I had high hopes on version 6.0 - as the company behind these boxes wanted to fix / help whatever a lot - but nothing happened - sadly. I am not an OE developer anymore - but if I was I would vote to remove every IMX support from an upcoming release.

azilber commented 9 years ago

There's seriously no other dev working on IMX support? That's pretty depressing if that's that case.

fritsch commented 9 years ago

Nope - In OE IMX has great support by @vpeter4 - but in kodi upstream it was only taken care that it "still works" somehow. But all those that did most work for the platform itself moved on ... vendor support was / is not existent.

vpeter4 commented 9 years ago

Actually Jon Nettleton is preparing new kernel and optimized Kodi for imx6. So there is hope for this platform.

fritsch commented 9 years ago

Did he say a timeline? he already prepared when I talked to him - 6 months ago?

vpeter4 commented 9 years ago

Should be done few weeks back already. Still some small Kodi issues but from what I heard seems to be working well. But because of splitting his time on different projects like clearfog platform this part stays behind.

fritsch commented 9 years ago

He should just pick everything that @mk01 has done for OSMC, including kernel (fractional refreshrates, ..) for kodi (video clock) ... and fine ... no need to reinvent the wheel again. OSMC is on 4.1.x + as xbian is ... there is no need for OE to come yet with another outdated 3.14 kernel that only works on one chip.

fritsch commented 9 years ago

@vpeter4 As I have you here: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=248346 could you take care that this patch somehow hits OE? I get emails from users asking me about HD audio not working and this is the reason.

vpeter4 commented 9 years ago

He doesn't do on it's own - he already work with mk01.

vpeter4 commented 9 years ago

About the patch - I need to look it because kernel used are different. And because I don't understand this code will take time. If I succeed...

fritsch commented 9 years ago

The comment says what it does and it applies cleanly - I will post a build later on - which might also fix the issue in this report.

vpeter4 commented 9 years ago

Openelec is using old kernel. And this patch doesn't apply because sample_rates in struct mxc_edid_cfg is not an array.

fritsch commented 9 years ago

Yeah - remove the array access and just or it directly

vpeter4 commented 9 years ago

Is the second commit also needed from https://github.com/SolidRun/linux-fslc/pull/31 ?

fritsch commented 9 years ago

Not sure - I think the kernel should be bumped - when every one is using this upstream kernel.

vpeter4 commented 9 years ago

Well, this is out of my hand obviously. I just help what i CAN do.

fritsch commented 9 years ago

Concerning the second commit: This is already done in the old kernel if I see this right.

vpeter4 commented 9 years ago

No, nothing from second commit is in kernel. I applied everything from this PR (removed array access from first commit) and kernel at least compiles. Will send PR.

fritsch commented 9 years ago

Post a kodi debuglog first - then we can at least see if the ALSA enumeration still gets the correct sample rates.

fritsch commented 9 years ago

@azilber Could you test: http://fritsch.fruehberger.net/openelec/imx/OpenELEC-imx6.arm-6.0-devel-20151122145249-r21579-gd600260.tar please?

vpeter4 commented 9 years ago

I assume amplifier must be connected? Then azilber will do this test.

azilber commented 9 years ago

Yep, downloading it now. Thanks!

Ok, updated it. Will keep you guys updated.

I will continue watching to see if I get a kernel panic as before.

fritsch commented 9 years ago

Good - this was the last "non upstream" IMX patch removed -> I wish you good luck :-)

You still did not post a mediainfo of the file and this is also no debuglog

azilber commented 9 years ago

Thanks! :P Here's the mediainfo (filename removed). Where do I find the debug log? mediainfo.txt

fritsch commented 9 years ago

File is out of spec: 16 reframes :-) forget it on that box.

Will patch it out ... Am 23.11.2015 8:48 vorm. schrieb "Alexey Zilber" notifications@github.com:

Status so far. Had one freeze, wasn't able to ssh in to figure what it was so assumed it was a kernel panic. When had a freeze the second time, I was already logged in so caught the error. I don't think it's the same error as the previous one, because ssh was still up and the system was responsive.

It was a weird network disconnect. I don't think it was an actual disconnect though. Just the kernel thinking it's a disconnect:

That last log is quite clear:

You use passthrough, but the videoclock does not match the output rate ... and therefore we need to drop audio ... don't use passthrough as the cubox won't be usable with that in 24p mode.

That last log is quite clear:

You use passthrough, but the videoclock does not match the output rate ... and therefore we need to drop audio ... don't use passthrough as the cubox won't be usable with that in 24p mode.

I have passthrough disabled for audio. I just reset my audio settings to see if that helps.

Without Reference Clock (osmc has it, xbian has it) you won't be able to solve that issue. If you want to use the best software for IMX it is not this version you are running.

@vpeter4 - same question: is this addressed in any recent changes - can the ticket be closed?

vpeter4 commented 8 years ago

I'm no expert but latest changes (or even new kernel) doesn't change this issue. But maybe I'm wrong.
