xbmc startup fails #617

Closed tilwolff closed 11 years ago

tilwolff commented 12 years ago

After bootup with OpenELEC 1.95.3 Generic PVR, xbmc just displays the mouse pointer in the upper left corner and hangs. A partial solution is switching to a console and killing xbmc. In this case, xbmc respawns and either runs fine or extremely slowly at less than 1 fps. If it runs slowly, I have also tried to kill it again. This results apparently in Xorg crashing, as the 93_xbmc init script asks "Is Xorg running?"

My system is a quite recent Sandy Bridge Notebook, OpenELEC v1 works like a charm on it. I booted from a slow USB 1.1 pendrive, which might be a possible reason (sleep commands in startup scripts?) - but again, OE1 boots just fine from that particular pendrive.

On request, I post the /var/log/messages, /var/log/Xorg.0.0.log as well as the /storage/.xbmc/temp/xbmc.log files if that helps.

Hi Stephan,

I posted the three logs three days ago by just copying them into a comment field, do not now of other methods github offers. The "wait for answer" tag is still on, so I am wondering if you needed the original files, since github seems to mess with format/encoding or even truncate files when you just insert them in the comment. Here are the files again. Hope I could help testing the new beta.

Gruss,

tilwolff

you have updated from 1.0 to 2.0 beta 3? if so does it helps to rename /storage/.xbmc and /storage/.config ?

tilwolff commented 12 years ago

No, I installed OE beta 3 freshly on a pendrive for testing. Consequently, the storage partition was completely empty. The issue has not disappeared with beta 4 either...

newphreak commented 12 years ago

Is it also present in beta5?

tilwolff commented 12 years ago

It is still present in beta 5. I am gonna compare the log of xbmc and Xorg before and after having killed it and post the result the soonest possible.

Regards,

tilwolff

tilwolff commented 12 years ago

Both Xorg.0.log and xbmc.log are identical, could not find anything. Will check kernel log next...

starf commented 12 years ago

Same with beta 7 on the zotac zbox nano id61, sometimes this presents after a clean install, but mostly after i added "asound.conf" to the the Configuration files as described here: http://openelec.tv/forum/68-audio/32385-solvedno-hdmi-sound-on-zbox-id61 and it's driving me insane because i have no sound. Restarting xbmc with "killall -9 xbmc.bin" doesn't help either. Might you need extra info, ask.

deejvince commented 12 years ago

I get this too, very fraustrating,

Using ASROCK MiniHTPC with Intel Sandy Bridge Chipset..

starf commented 12 years ago

As a reply to deejvince:

Didn't need to add the asound.conf, just followed this guide: http://wiki.openelec.tv/index.php?title=HDMI_Audio_-_The_Easy_Way and used hw:0,7 instead of plughw:0,7

Problem solved after that. Bunch of other problems with the zotac zbox id61 piece of crap that i'm not going to discuss here.

lrusak commented 12 years ago

please retest with RC1, and the suggestion that @starf made.

deejvince commented 12 years ago

Hi @lrusak - I Will retest soon using clean install of RC1, but my audio configuration is different than @starf . I'm using analog output (3-pl) with "Surround51" configured as a custom sound device.

I also get non consistent behavior, - about 3 boot-ups are getting stuck the way described here, while the 4th boots up correctly.

Hardware is Asrock Mini-PC 231d.

Didn't have this with version 1.0.2.

A3Baak commented 12 years ago

Hi, iám having the same issue here with my Zotac ID61.

Upgraded to the OpenElec RC1 for Intel x64.

Used also the also the sound solution from starf.

deejvince commented 12 years ago

Hi, tried fresh install with RC1 for Intel x64.

no joy, still some bootups get stuck. (smb and ssh are still available).

I did however found something interesting in the log files while its stuck, wonder if it can be related. Could it be that network is not initialized fast enough for CRssReader or any other service, and that is why it get stuck? i have the airplay server running also, maybe that one? its new to eden...

BTW: killing Xorg & xbmc.bin and running them again manually works.

@deejvince :

I compared the xbmc.log file when xbmc startup fails with the one when satrtup succeeds. They are identical, which means these warnings

22:46:23 T:139671821735680 NOTICE: Thread CRssReader start, auto delete: false 22:46:23 T:139671821735680 WARNING: FillBuffer: curl failed with code 6

always show on my logfile, no matter if startup fails or it doesnt. So I guess this is not the reason why startup fails. But I cannot really find out if the problem is related to networking as my BIOS doesnt support disabling network adapters.

I have no idea where else to look for this bug, any suggestions?

tilwolff

By the way: Kernel logs are identical across reboots, too.

mrdominuzq commented 12 years ago

maybe we can try with a freshly compiled version :) ?
