Audio playback error when turning of Display #636

Closed Jeltel closed 12 years ago

Jeltel commented 12 years ago

Just updated to 1.95.3 on my Fusion Zbox AD-10. Using it with a Marantz SR5003 Surround amplifier and a Sony Bravia TV.

When turning the tv on or off (effectively the display of the Zbox) the audio stream stops. No sound is heard, even after restarting the playback of a file (Music/Video). Only restarting the Zbox solves the problem, until the TV is turned off or on again.

This issue wasn't in the 1.95.2 beta.

mh348 commented 12 years ago

Same Issue on my HP Micro Server.. A post on the Openelec forums suggests it has something to do with the screen saver.

Jeltel commented 12 years ago

Thanks. Topic on openelec: http://openelec.tv/forum/68-audio/33937-1953-fusion-64bit-movie-has-no-audio-after-waking-up-from-screensaver

It is similar and probably the same.

kobik commented 12 years ago

Thought I was the only one :) Same here with Fusion E350 connected with HDMI. It seems to me too that it's something to do with XBMC idling for a long time while the TV is off. Will add logs next time it would happen.

jeffgolden commented 12 years ago

I am brand new to openELEC and I am having the same / similar issue on my Zbox AD-10 with an Onkyo HT-R390. When I switch to another component (a blu-ray player) connected via HDMI and switch right back, I haven't tested it after a delay, the sounds stays active. When I switch to my TV (connected via component to TV/Optical to HT-R390) and come back right away the sound is dead. I don't have the screensaver on so I don't know what happens in that case. I am running 1.95.3 Fusion.

Edit: Power Cycling the HT-R390 causes sound to work again.

brettcallanan commented 12 years ago

I can confirm the same issue on the ASUS E35M1-I Deluxe. This has been an issue for awhile since upgrading to 1.95.3 Fusion.

dustindt commented 12 years ago

Same here on my Denon 1712. Power cycling the AVR or Zotac AD10 fixes the issue.

dikov commented 12 years ago

The problem comes with beta versions. On Fusion 1.0.2 sound persists after switch on/off of TV. But with OE 2.0 betas the problem is evident (tested on Fusion and Generic). I fix it by unplugging HDMI cable from TV and plugging it back. So there is no need to reboot OE. Hence, the problem is that OE and a TV loose audio stream handshaking. Strange since video stream is alive.

schumi2004 commented 12 years ago

Confirmed.

Hardware Zotac AD02 Fusion E350 Build r110xx

Didn't had this problems when running build 10853

It can be reproduced by switching TV input channel or turn off / on TV.

cpengr commented 12 years ago

I have the same problem as the OP describes. Note that it also occurs if I start the XBMC machine before turning on the TV (whether via wake-on-lan, or by pressing the power button--which makes WOL much less useful).

IIRC, this problem did not happen in 1.95.2 (that is 2.0 Beta 2); I think it started with Beta 3. (I can't seem to downgrade to Beta 2 to verify this, though.) It does persist in Beta 4.

Hardware: Zotac AD02 Fusion E350 Connected to Samsung UN46C7000 HDTV directly, via HDMI

ngjoisbcw commented 12 years ago

Not fixed in 1.95.4. Turning off the TV or changing the signal source (i.e. from HDMI to another) will render audio with 0db. Unplugging the hdmi cable and replugging it back solves it or power cycling the htpc. I hope they will fix this sooner. The principal user of my htpc is my 5yar old daughter :) I think I'll revert back to 1.95.2.

schumi2004 commented 12 years ago

For the people compiling there own build. It's not a fix but more a temporarily solution and that is to downgrade fglrx package back to 12.3 http://openelec.tv/forum/68-audio/34424-sound-vanishes-switching-between-xbmc-and-tv#34473

dikov commented 12 years ago

schumi2004, Thank for the hint! I recompiled Fusion x64 and it works no problem!

jonkristian commented 12 years ago

Same issue here on generic pvr.

nadimm commented 12 years ago

Same issue. HP Proliant Microserver N40L Generic 1.95.4 over hdmi to Sony TV

Happens when display is turned off i.e. put on standby. Screensaver doesn't seem to create a problem.

simonk83 commented 12 years ago

Same problem here, Zotac AD04.

Is this scheduled to be fixed in the next release does anyone know? Sounds like a simple fix if it's just a case of rolling back to fglrx 12.3 (though I don't compile my own so I'll need to wait for the next beta)...

sraue commented 12 years ago

@ all who build byself, can you test our last builds which contains the 12.6 beta driver? regarding the changelog it should be solved there, but i am not sure.

another thing to test: aticonfig -i /etc/X11/xorg-fglrx.conf --acpi-services=off via ssh and switch off the TV/receiver for longer, does this help?

sraue commented 12 years ago

same problem reported here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1001842 regarding this the beta driver should work

dikov commented 12 years ago

From where should I take the build?

simonk83 commented 12 years ago

srau: "another thing to test: aticonfig -i /etc/X11/xorg-fglrx.conf --acpi-services=off via ssh and switch off the TV/receiver for longer, does this help?"

I've tried this, then switched my TV to another input for a bit. Normally this would cause loss of sound when I switch back to the HTPC, but this time the sound remains. The big test will be when I turn off the TV and Receiver overnight, so I'll report back then.

simonk83 commented 12 years ago

Nope, scratch that, didn't help unfortunately :(

simonk83 commented 12 years ago

"@ all who build byself, can you test our last builds which contains the 12.6 beta driver? regarding the changelog it should be solved there, but i am not sure."

Can anyone confirm this?

nadimm commented 12 years ago

Apparently 12.6 fixes the issue...

simonk83 commented 12 years ago

Ok, and I assume that'll be included in 1.99.1? Still scheduled for release in 4 days?

Getting a bit old having to reboot the box everytime I go to use it :)

dikov commented 12 years ago

@sraue Where I can get "our last builds"? They are not available from http://sources.openelec.tv/tmp/image/ anymore.

schumi2004 commented 12 years ago

@dikov you need to compile them yourself. http://wiki.openelec.tv/index.php?title=Compile_from_source

simonk83 commented 12 years ago

Soooo, can this issue be marked as fixed and closed?

sraue commented 12 years ago

if the OP (original poster) can confirm its fixed, then this can be closed. some testbuilds you can find here: http://sources.openelec.tv/tmp/image/test/

schumi2004 commented 12 years ago

At least the problem for me is gone, don't know for OP? For me issue is resolved.

kobik commented 12 years ago

Same here, seems fixed on r11429

sraue commented 12 years ago

thanks, will close now, if the problem still exist please open a new report

cttttt commented 12 years ago

Using http://sources.openelec.tv/tmp/image/test/OpenELEC_PVR-Fusion.x86_64-devel-20120704202017-r11493.tar.bz2, all of the issues I was observing are gone. Switching outputs as well as turning the TV off and back on give no issues. Thanks!

dikov commented 12 years ago

Just checked Fusion-PVR Version. Bug is gone. Thanks a lot!

simonk83 commented 12 years ago

It hasn't fixed it for me, Fusion 10959 :(

cttttt commented 12 years ago

The Fusion 10959 build is actually months old--check the date stamp. Only the Fusion PVR builds in that directory are actually up to date. Give the latest one of them a try and report back. If you still see problems, try to include:

simonk83 commented 12 years ago

Ah, good. I assumed they were up to date with the fix as Sraue linked to them. I don't run PVR so I guess I'll just wait.

Jeltel commented 12 years ago

Fixed in 1.95.5 :) Thanks.

simonk83 commented 12 years ago

Still not working for me. :(

Running 1.95.5

I turn on the box and all is fine (sound, video, everything). This remains fine until I turn off both the TV and receiver (I have the TV into the receiver, and the Zotac AD04 into the receiver. The receiver outputs all sound). The Zotac remains on 24/7.

Upon turning the TV and receiver on again when I come to watch something, there's zero sound and the receiver indicates it's not seeing a signal at all. Nothing I do helps until I reboot the Zotac.

simonk83 commented 12 years ago

Other's on the forums have the issue still as well, so it's not just me ;)

schumi2004 commented 12 years ago

@simonk83 are you using the test builds provide by Stephan?

Don't think it made it to latest beta yet

simonk83 commented 12 years ago

Hi schumi,

No, I assumed it was merged into 1.95.5....

If that's not the case then is there a test build for Fusion (none PVR) that I can try?
