Add `acceptance` #1552

Closed stap-m closed 1 year ago

Description of the issue

For the study factsheet descriptors we need to add the term acceptance. Use case: Describing a scenario study that deals with / is about the acceptance of measures, usually of a constructional or (infra)structural kind.

Ideas of solution

A kind of realizable entity, maybe similar to demand.

Workflow checklist

I am aware that

Acceptance: Acceptance is an entity whose realization in a person/population, directed at some constructional or (infra)structural measure can be studied.

Persons and populations as bearer sounds good. Maybe also organizations? Not sure... Which classification do you propose exatcly? The definition only says "entity".

l-emele commented 1 year ago

To me, acceptance is a possible outcome of some kind of process. People/populations/organisations think and discuss about things and then they either accept something or don't.

viktorwichern commented 1 year ago

@l-emele I see your point, but I think that does not capture the complexity. If we would want to talk about wind turbines and their acceptance in general population, there is no binary value to acceptance, but a varying degree that might differ between regions/social groups etc. The way I thought of it was, that acceptance is not the outcome of a process, but the populations/groups stance on that process/decision.

To me, acceptance is a possible outcome of some kind of process.

there is no binary value to acceptance

The outcome of a process is not the process itself. And the outcome does not have to be static.

I think, both arguments fit to my original proposal above: we could see acceptance as (kind of) realizable entity, which per definition have to be realized in a process. The process could be a discussion, communication, action, construction, ... As processed develop or other processes occur, the acceptance of a measure (or the stance regarding it) might be affected and changed. I still think, there is a simlarity to demand, which can also be realized, vary or even disappear again.

EDIT: What about: Acceptance is a realizable entity that represents the attitude of a person or organisation with respect to a certain constructional, (infra)structural or political measure that may be realized in, affected by or results of complex processes like discussions, communications, transformative measures or former personal experiences.

I am fine with your proposal.

viktorwichern commented 1 year ago

I am also fine with that definition.

Should I implement it?

Should I implement it?

Yes, please do so. I just added the oeo-social label, that is my view the best fitting module for this class. I suggest to also add the axiom acceptance 'has bearer' some (person or organisation).
