Re-use parts of the enArgus ontology #179

Open tillmo opened 4 years ago

tillmo commented 4 years ago

Description of the issue

The enArgus ontology is a German ontology about the energy domain. We could possibly re-use some material for the OEO. Unfortunately, the ontology is not available in a standard format. There is a wiki with all the terms and their definitions, as well as both graphical and textual descriptions of relations among terms.

Ideas of solution

We are allowed to crawl the wiki (the dbpedia people have offered help) and reconstruct the ontology, translate it to English, and then publish it as open source. This could be a starting point. The next step could be to align the ontology with the OEO, and/or to re-use some terms and definitions for the OEO.

What is the state of this issue?

I think the DBpedia people in the SC have offered help with crawling the EnArgus ontology. It should be not too difficult. And there are interesting corners in the EnArgus ontology, for example, a much more fine-grained structure of energy system models than we currently have.

I cleared the milestone for this issue as this issue is always shifted from release to release.

@tillmo I vaguely recall you mentioning that someone should extract terms from EnArgus. Has this been done?

As part of the spreadsheet for the German language label issue #1471 I made also a matching of a lot of OEO classes to enArgus concepts: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1snsx6zF8dqXGM9WCX0EckrdGnorrB9lMnvdvP2fx9ZQ/edit?gid=1692149922#gid=1692149922
