has_environmental_impact is currently missing as relation #91

has_environmental_impact relation should be added to describe the effects that things can have.

han-f commented 4 years ago

has_greenhouse_gas_effect may also be relevant as a subproperty

akleinau commented 4 years ago

suggestion: has_environmental_impact definition: "has_environmental_impact is the property of an object that describes which aspects of the environment it changes." domain: bfo:object range: ?

stap-m commented 4 years ago

@han-f can you give some examples please? I am afraid that we might end up with almost everything having an environmental impact on almost anything (exaggeratedly). Where would we draw the line?

akleinau commented 4 years ago

@han-f with you being back this would be a good time to address this. Right now we have "greenhouse gas emission" as subclass of emission.

This means we implement the process and then use the "participates in" relation. It's generally better to have less relations and instead more classes.

I think, for the moment we don't need the has_enivronmental_effect anymore. If I recall correctly, we came in the end to the conclusion that (almost?) every human activity has an environmental effect.

Instead we have now air pollutants that participate in air pollution and greenhouse gases that have the disposition to contribute to the greenhouse effect. I currently do not see need for something above that. So I suggest to close this issue without implementing anything further.

I am ok with the suggestion @l-emele made.
