An Issue of Fan wake Effect on FAST.farm #1725

Hello, I have the following questions when running the FAST.farm file, The coordinates of my four fans as shown in the following figure, but the wind speed of the first three fans is still decreasing normally, and the last one is rising again. I can‘t understand this situation. According to the situation of wake effect, should the forth fan be smaller than the other? Thanks for your help. f主文件2 w1 w2 w3 w4

Dear @Yangbyon,

Considering the wind turbine spacing of 500 m, and a mean wind speed (I'm estimating you are using) of around 8 m/s, it will take over a minute for the the wake from one turbine to hit the wake of the next turbine. Thus, the start-up transient of the simulation (where wakes are fully propagated through the farm) is likely several minutes long. But you are only showing the first 6 seconds of simulation results, so, these won't include wake effects yet. The wind speeds you are plotting from each turbine are showing the ambient inflow turbulence before wakes from upstream turbines hit. (The variation of wind speed between turbines is likely the result of the spatial variation of turbulence within the wind farm).

In general, I would recommend neglecting the simulation start-up transients before post-processing any OpenFAST or FAST.Farm results.

Best regards,
