Problems encountered in modelling IEA 15MW #2461

Dear Professor

I am experiencing the following problem when simulating the IEA 15MW wind turbine model Before, I tried to use the turbulent wind field generated by TurbSim as the inlet condition, and set the rated wind speed at 150m to 10.59m/s, but I found that the power didn't reach 15MW, so I tried to use the steady state inlet, and also set the steady wind speed at 150m to 12m/s, but the result still didn't reach 15MW, and I also set the wind turbine's initial speed to 7.55rpm, turned off the platform's degrees of freedom, and I don't know why the simulation result still didn't reach the manual's requirement. I also set 7.55rpm initial rotational speed of the wind turbine and closed the platform's degree of freedom, I don't know why the simulation result still can't reach the requirement of the manual, I hope you can help me to answer this doubt, thank you. Here are the simulation results, the red colour is power, the blue colour is rotational speed of the wind turbine, and the green colour is wind speed.

Dear @tianmou-dr,

Are you using the OpenFAST model of the IEA Wind 15-MW RWT available from its repository: https://github.com/IEAWindTask37/IEA-15-240-RWT/tree/master/OpenFAST/IEA-15-240-RWT-Monopile? Did you change anything in this model other than the wind speed and rotor speed and disabling the platform DOFs in ElastoDyn?

In addition to wind speed, rotor speed, and power, what do blade pitch, blade deflection, and tower deflection look like?

Best regards,

Dear Professor

I didn't use the model you mentioned, I used the https://github.com/IEAWindTask37/IEA-15-240-RWT/tree/master/OpenFAST/IEA-15-240-RWT-UMaineSemi。At the same time I didn't change any other parameters except the ones you mentioned. The blade pitch is shown below。 pitch Below in red is the YawBrTDyt、Green is YawBrTDxt Y x

Daer @tianmou-dr,

Perhaps the issue is that your initial blade-pitch angle is not consistent with the wind speed you are using? According to Figure 3-1 in the IEA Wind 15-MW RWT specifications document, at 12 m/s, the blade-pitch angle should be closer to 5 deg. Not using proper initial conditions of rotor speed and blade pitch can often confuse the controller, which can take a long time to recover.

Best regards,
