Set up EU/GDPR-compliant cookie warnings #14

What's your idea for a cool feature that would help you use OHM better. We should have a per-user warning about Cookies on the site and persist that information somehwere.

Might be something we can snag from OSM.

Current workarounds None

Additional info This will require more detail.

I'm surprised we are not getting this from upstream OSM. Does OSM website not comply with GDPR? If so, s that because of a non-commercial exception or something similar? I know California's GDPR-inspired rules do not apply to orgs that never sell personal information, though many orgs are offer cookie selection features anyway, esp if they are unsure about third party services they might use (eg Google Analytics). OSM might truly have no such third party data harvesters.

We were recently discussing GDPR and other privacy laws related to our work at GreenInfo, and I am as surprised now as I was a year plus ago that openstreetmap.org doesn’t have some sort of GDPR compliance banner or alert, but the privacy policy does comply https://osmfoundation.org/wiki/GDPR_Privacy_Statement.

We did implement a similar Privacy Policy, https://www.openhistoricalmap.org/privacy-policy

But I'm still not sure why they don't provide an affordance for blocking cookies. Maybe that's not strictly required by the law?

Possibly relevant thread from the OSM forum involving a member of the Licensing Working Group who investigated GDPR compliance several years ago.
