What's your idea for a cool feature that would help you use OHM better.
Right now, time filtering in iD takes at least 2 clicks (open and close the Map Data panel & hope the Date Range drop down is selected), as well as changing at least 1, if not 2, fields (start & end), and a prayer that the data you want to modify is revealed or the stuff that is in the way is hidden. It's sort of time selection in the dark.
Because most people only edit for a specific time range or date (to match a map or some other source), the slider wouldn't have to support a wide time window. Maybe a single date field that accepted just a year (or made obvious that finer resolution is highly optional) and controls to move forward and back a day, month, or year (or even keystrokes) would be pretty awesome.
Here's a completely noncommittal and uglier-than-homemade mockup that has no connection to any understanding of what's possible, but that I think captures what I'm trying to express. Think of the little circles as forward or back for year, month, day.
Benefits
If we had a less modal, faster way of adjusting the date range:
Users might find the date filter more quickly
They might be encouraged to change dates more frequently
It might be easier to change more rapidly-changing attributes
Easier to see when features start or end without having to guess or do attributed inspection
