Datalad + Binder : create reproducible interactive demos to explore your data
Project Description
While preparing the data viz workshop for openMR 2021 we had to figure out how to download an MRI dataset into a binder (a virtual machine running in the cloud) to create an online interactive demo to explore data.
This was done by using Datalad a software that allows you version control your data (in brief: Datalad is to data what Git is to code).
Both the binder team and datalad team seem interested to create an template / demo to show how to do that.
So if anyone is interested to help create that demo and learn a bit about Binder and Datallad along the way.
Skills required to participate
What different types of people could contribute?
Coding skills
no coding sills required
software specific sills
Datalad - beginner or less
Binder - beginner or less
Jupyter book - beginner or less
GIT / GITHUB skills required
GIT - 2 - comfortable working with branches and can do a pull request on another repository
Integration
This would provide an easy way for researchers and teachers to create Binder based demos that easily integrate data from all the datasets that datalad provides access to.
Preparation material
Might be good (but not necesary) to have a look at:
Not an official repo yet but most of the "hard" content is already in there. It "just" needs to be turned into a stand alone repository with documentation.
