OpenMarch/LibreDot? The Zingali Project? Sacktig? Sylvester?

(the following is from a text conversation)

Current working title is OpenMarch. Open to signify the freeness of the software and the source code and March for, well I haven’t figured that out.

OpenMarch is just what I have right now (I even bought the domain! OpenMarch.com), but I had a couple other ideas LibreDot - Libre is also a common prefix for open source software (like LibreOffice)

The Zengali Project - a bit long, but I like the idea of naming it after someone who was so influential on drill. He made things that no one thought was possible at the time

Sylvester - repeat everything from Zengali, but Marc Sylvester was the one who was able to make all of his crazy ideas a reality. Without Sylvester, Zengali would never have been able to accomplish all those things. He used his knowledge of drill and geometry to actually write pages and pathways for these wild shapes. He was a master of getting ideas on a usable drill page

Sacktig- just another name

I also don’t know if people will want me using their names for this, I was going for a Sibelius vibe, but I definitely would wait to do something like that until I have a working product

Sylvester especially is not a very well known figure compared to Zingali (who has a whole caption award named after him) but without him, Zingali wouldn’t have been able to pull it off. I’m not thinking it because I love Sylvester to the moon in back or anything, but I do think the message behind his story and what he did for the corps will hopefully have a lot of parallels to what this software can do for other people. I agree though, OpenMarch would definitely still have to stay in the name. I was thinking of doing something like naming the “company” OpenMarch and calling the software itself Sylvester. Or, call the software OpenMarch and simply name each major update after a big figure in the marching world - OpenMarch: Sylvester, OpenMarch: Bilby? (like how Apple names their macOS updates after national parks). Granted, I’m not Apple and I might be building a lemon. Hence why OpenMarch is the working name! Just some fun mission/long term ideas

imo "The Zingali Project" sounds pretty cool, and would probably not sound too technical to the public world (which is a plus). Using "Zingali" as opposed to "Sylvester" or "Sacktig" just has a bit more of a zing to it.

"OpenMarch" as a name somewhat has this implication that it is just a software package for developers, rather than a deployed, runnable application with UI intended to be used by the marching arts community.
