Curious... stat question #159

I've been thinking... and is there any way we could make it so that you have the chance to alter your stats one time in a characters life?

Mostly because I know quite a few people who have gotten pretty far into building only to realize they have messed up their stats in relation to what they want, or they figured out they'd rather have an extra level etc... and starting over sucks.

Now, I know this could potentially be abused by taking a high myst to deal with soft caps (are those necessary? :P) and then changing it later, but I'm just curious on thoughts here.

I'm not generally opposed to it, but it is a bit hard to implement, especially if you want to allow changing intellect. The only thing that would work cleanly is keeping a chars HPs (or lowering them to their new max) while resetting all skills and spells to zero. Else, you'd have to create an entirely new interface for removing spells or skills when you lower your intellect.

Not saying this is a good or bad idea, but I would like to implement some sort of token as rewards for future content. Like a level 6 token is good for 1% in a level 6 spell or something, in reward for killing Lord Hardagast the Generic Quest Boss.

If those tokens go in, then we could 'unzip' a character and give you hundreds of level 1-6 tokens equivalent to what you had built. You could then go around handing them to the proper NPCs to rebuild your character a different way.

I guess that would be one way of handling it. You can trade in stat points for tokens. However, you can only hand in int points if you have unused spell levels. You can then use those tokens and hand them in to another NPC to gain a different stat. That wouldn't be too hard really.

I vote no, BUT, with all the changes going on with game mechanics on 103, i think there should be a post on the inn globes that explains the game mechanics in a very clear and simple manner.

When i came to 103 i made a toon and a few days later i read through the site and realized that stTs worked differently here than on 101 and rerolled.

In a few paragraphs, post on the globes how stats affect performance (other than softcaps), combat formulas (spelle and wc), hit/dodge formulas, modifiers (like zerker rings and jof).

You guys are doing a lot of great stuff to the game that shoulda been done years ago by NDS or 3do. Not only would this info on an inn globe remove the reason for this stat change request, it would help buy in from curious players who are debating whether or not to play.

Sure you can browse through this site and data mine all the answers but a lot of people wont do that

I am against changing the stats once the toon has been created. if it would be doable, I would put a max in Myst, do all spells, then adjust myst the way I want and put back the points into another position. You are born with attributes, live with them.

I think we should include more items that are stats changing. Nothing extraordinary. Let's say a sword +1 this, or a plate + 1 that for example. it would alleviate a little bit the softcap if you can wear a magic robe +1 myst, a circlet +1 myst and a round shield +1 myst that you got while fighting. It would not touch the balance of PvP or PvE at all, but it would finally add that objects diversity the other games have.

I don't think we'd ever implement a mechanic for changing base stats unless we were going to make major changes that affected how base stats contribute to your build.
