This will be best accompanied by moving away from lsxbe for the Notes UI.

Thinking a bit further about it, this would be more clever than worth it. Unless there ends up being some greater specific reason to avoid RunJava, the tweaks mentioned in #74 would limit the problems with RunJava without introducing compilations hurdles and new edge cases.
