Mapper 0.3.2 has been successfully tested on another machine than it was built on. It was probably built on an OS X version newer than 10.5.8 which could mean that it does not run on your system.
Mapper 0.4.0 binary was built on Mac OS X 10.8 which could mean that it does not run on earlier version of Mac OS. I have no feedback except one crash report (#133).
There is no active Mac developer in our team so we cannot provide much support or instructions.
One extra note:
Try to start Mapper from the Terminal. Maybe it produces more output than the mere result "The application Mapper quit unexpectedly".
Verified on a fresh install of Mac OS X 10.7:
Mapper 0.3.2 runs.
Mapper 0.4.0 crashes with an illegal instruction. But the included assistant runs.
There is another ticket which deals with Mapper 0.4.0 crashing on Mac OS X 10.7: #133. Mac OS X support will hopefully improve with Mapper 0.5.
But Mac OS X 10.5.8 will not be supported - even Qt requires 10.6 or newer. So I close this ticket.

Reported by Janis Tamuzs:
I tried to download Open Orienteering mapper and run it on Mac OS X 10.5.8, but when clicking on icon it says that "The application Mapper quit unexpectedly". It happens with all versions of Mapper for Mac. I have no idea about why or how this happens, perhaps I am missing something in the installation process. Do you have any idea why it might be happening so? And if not, could you please describe the installation process step by step?
