"Course Design-2018" symbol set (based on "IOF Control Descriptions-2018" standard) #896

Actual behaviour

Current "Course Design" symbols set created according "IOF Controls Description 2004"

Expected behaviour

IOF annonced next revision on it - "IOF Controls Description 2018"

The IOF Rules Commission is now looking for feedback on this Final Draft document by August 15th, 2017. The intention is to put the finished version to IOF Council for decision at their meeting on 13-14 October 2017. Providing they are approved, they will then be published immediately and will come into effect on 1st January 2018.

Rules

  • The final proposal for Control Descriptions is now availiable. FOC agreed to the proposal from DM that "edge" could be removed from the descriptions.

It's time to work on updating/creating "Course Design-2018" symbol set

New Control Descriptions published (November 27, 2017)

The IOF Rules Commission has finalised their project to update the IOF Control Descriptions. Several rounds of consultation and many hours of work from the Rules Commission have resulted in the final product, which comes into force on 1 January 2018. Thank you to everyone who offered feedback on the draft versions. You can find the document here, together with all other mapping related documents. Now, get studying the changes to make sure you punch the controls first in 2018!

Also on November 21, 2017 IOF published article "New control process for mapping for IOF events"

P.S.: Propose keep old symbol set as "Course Design-2004". Old "IOF Control Descriptions-2004 still avaliable here

IOF Control Descriptions 2018 (w/ ISOM 2017)

Major Changes to the 2004 version:

  1. Optional extra line showing the distance to the start triangle from the timed start.
  2. New symbols introduced for Trench, Out of Bounds Area.
  3. Bend moved from Column G to Column F.
  4. Removal of symbol for Radio or TV control.
  5. Names and descriptions brought into line with the ISOM 2017 terminology where appropriate.
  6. Renumbering of symbols to cater for additions and deletions.
  7. A number of minor changes throughout the text in order to provide further clarification as to the use of specific symbols.

Here is "Course_Design-2018" symbol set (../symbol-sets/src/Course_Design-2018_10000.xmap), fixed by me. Please, test it!

This is just "test1" version (for changelog look in previous comment), that near complete.

My TODO (for Course_Design-2018_10000.xmap)

A new forest example is not really urgent. At least I'm reluctant to increase the size of our packages.

But what about updating existed "forest" from ISOM2000 to ISOM2017?

Sure, that's okay. It should not be too difficult, given our CRT files.

Yeah, using "Replace symbol set..." & ISOM2000-ISOM2017.crt it's possible update forest_sample.omap, but there are few questions and issues here.

What should we do with next:

P.S.: Also, I want add into current course distance to the start triangle

Forest sample has tittle that use "980.0.2 Text" symbol ...

Leave it as is, it is okay. Most maps will have special symbol like this for design elements, and this one even got a number outside

Forest sample include one map object with "532 Grave" symbol ...

In that particular map, we can use 526 Cairn. However I'm not sure if it is wise to make this a general replacement rule. This must be reviewed by a human.

I just re-upload "test1" version (because previous link is broken now):

Now, as it uploaded as gist, I will update it from-time-to-time so use this link for get latest version, that is still WIP.

Hopefully, I will finish it in few weeks.
