A bit off-topic, but I got intrigued by the question of how many (former) members of the German Bundestag have been in the NSDAP. Turns out quite a lot (309). Here's the breakdown by their party membership in the German Bundestag. Here's the Wikidata Query to get the data.
Update: We want the most recent party, not a list
I tested ca. 30 members of German Bundestag how easy it is to find out about their most recent party... (In total there are 652 cases where members have multiple parties)
Can be sorted out by using start/end qualifiers: Q40999331 - AfD + non-attached Q42222998 - AfD + non-attached Q40980201 - CSU + AfD Q40976001 - CDU + AfD Q40874199 - CDU + LKR + non-attached Q40650476 - AfD + CDU Q40470241 - AfD + CDU Q33309067 - AfD + FDP Q24260075 - AfD + FDP Q20645389 - AfD + CDU Q18019298 - AfD + CDU Q14946405 - SPD Österreich, SPD, Tschech. Partei Q14924803 - AfD + FDP
Problematic: Q40998789 - AfD + Bibleparty -> no start/end qualifiers Q40997626 - Fdp + CDU -> only one of them has start/end qualifiers Q40984442 - many parties -> only some of them have start/end qualifiers Q40476219 - AfD + SPD --> no start/end qualifiers Q39678866 - Die Linke + Marxistischer Studentenbund --> no start/end qualifiers Q29946731 - AfD + CDU --> no start/end qualifiers Q20753082 - AfD + SPD --> only some of them have start/end qualifiers Q19758044 - Linke + Sozialist. Einheitspartei --> only some of them have start/end qualifiers Q15792684 - SPD + Grüne --> no start/end qualifiers Q15439343 - CDU + Grüne --> no start/end qualifiers Q15434412 - Linke + Grüne --> no start/end qualifiers Q15263649 - Linke + PDS --> no start/end qualifiers Q7477615 (Frauke Petry) - Afd, Blue, non-attached --> only some of them have start/end qualifiers Q2804841 - CDU + CDU --> no start/end qualifiers Q2737822 - FDP + LDPD --> no start/end qualifiers Q2650617 - FDP + Zentrum --> no start/end qualifiers Q2645122 - many parties --> no start/end qualifiers Q2643176 - many parties --> only some of them have start/end qualifiers
Another approach of resolving the party could be to compare with the most recent faction that a mdb has... but not all have factions...
Problematic remaining:
Q19758044 - no faction, multiple parties but without start/end dates Q15439343 - no faction, multiple parties but without start/end dates --> use affiliation? Q2804841 - no faction, multiple parties but without start/end dates --> use affiliation? Q2737822 - no faction, multiple parties but without start/end dates --> use affiliation? Q2650617 - no faction, multiple parties but without start/end dates --> use affiliation? Q2645122 - no faction, multiple parties but without start/end dates --> use affiliation?
WARNING: This shortcut might not be semantically correct, because there are people that are in a party but not in a faction and vice versa...
Solution: We get the party from Abgeordnetenwatch (in case an abgeordnetenwatchID exists)..
There are many cases where a parliamentary member is affiliated with multiple parties during their lifetime. I would suggest concatenating them as a list. However, the order in which they are listed is quite critical. I found a curious example that might represent an edge case, but it demonstrates that the order is important:
Horst Ehmke (https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q71352) was a member of the SPD, but also a member of the NSDAP (which became public in 2007 to which he said that he wasn't aware of his membership with the NSDAP)
