This works quite well for the tickets. I really like that the link to the video shows up on the event page after purchasing the ticket. Few comments:

As for the festival pass, it would be great if after purchasing a festival pass, customers can simply go to any event page and see the blue 'view video' button. If we cannot restrict the time the video is viewable, I wouldn't mind uploading it the day it's released and removing each video after the 30 days.

So the virtual plugin so far provides a link on the event and the email. Still need to figure out if/how it can provide the link in my-account. Also need to look further into if/how we can limit the time the content is available w/o also using WooMemberships.

You can test right how both the plugins together could work on this event - https://commerce-angelcityjazz.pantheonsite.io/calendar/chromaticitytrio/

I'll try to spend a bit more time on this over the weekend...

I really like that the link to the video shows up on the event page after purchasing the ticket.

The link just appears in that particular block automatically - think it works well. That said, after playing around with the settings, I think the primary use case is embedding or linking to Vimeo or YouTube... look at the settings on the bottom of the event and you'll see what I mean - https://commerce-angelcityjazz.pantheonsite.io/wp-admin/post.php?post=1422&action=edit

Here are some notes on the setup -

Edit Event ‹ Angel City Jazz — WordPress 2020-08-29 12-36-49

I did not get an email with the link or receipt for the order. Check your spam folder; also realizing some emails don't go out until we mark the order as 'completed' - see

Orders ‹ Angel City Jazz — WordPress 2020-08-29 13-05-50

If we cannot provide the link in the my account page, it would be great if we can at least have this text under the orders tab

I'm pretty sure I've seen some documentation on how to display tickets in my-account. Click the memberships tab and you should see a membership plan for each purchase. I think it would be ideal to hide the plans for individual events but keep the festival pass since it does group all the events together.

If this combo of tix + membership works we wouldn't have to manually switch up the videos (altho that's not a big deal).

roccosomazzi commented 4 years ago

No need to have the page embeddable. As long as the link thales the ticket buyers to the page with the content, we're all goog. It would be nice to have video be activated directly when the event start, although we'll probably need to go back and make sure we have midnight as the start time. for each release date. Saw the email in the spam folder. Do we have to manually complete all orders? Is there a way to make this automatic? Never had to do something like that before. As for the festival pass, I got one on the commerce site but I do not see the blue buttons with the video links on all the other events except the one I bought a ticket for. Would be great if people who buy the pass could see those links for all the events. Can it be set-up as a ticket covering all the events?

It would be nice to have video be activated directly when the event start, although we'll probably need to go back and make sure we have midnight as the start time. for each release date.

For testing I set the button to show to logged-in users when event is published. We can set it to show on the event start on the live site (also will need to go back and make sure the start times are right). I hadn't set up all the virtual events... that's why you didn't see the buttons.

Do we have to manually complete all orders? Is there a way to make this automatic? Never had to do something like that before.

Probably yes - but we can also do a bulk complete. I'll reference some instructions when i find some.

Buttons should show to logged-in users, so that would include all who have a festival pass. There may be a way to group all the events together as one ticket, but I think the membership works better for this use case. Again all the content is easily accessed in the membership tab and users can 'name their price'. Right now Event Tickets doesn't support that.

So afyer you completed the order I got another email saying my order is now complete. I think this is super awkward and unnecessary. The first rmail with the ticket link is all we need

We still need to configure all the emails.

I think it’s nice to have the button before the event starts. If they click before the event start there should be a message on the video page saying ehen it will be released. Also, what happens to the video when the date of the release is over? Should we extend the event date to cover the 30 days?

what happens to the video when the date of the release is over?

What would be ideal? I think we were previously discussing having the videos be available as part of a future membership or even ala carte (i.e. pay per view type model).

Should we extend the event date to cover the 30 days?

You mean make the event end date 30 days after the start?

roccosomazzi commented 4 years ago

Ideally we want nothing to happen so people can continue to purchase tickets and watch the videos during the 30 days after their release. The archive creation would be down the line (next year?). If there is a way to have the event extend for 30 days so that it remains active, we should do that. The starting date is just the release date.

As mentioned in https://github.com/OpenProducer/angelcityjazz/issues/9#issuecomment-671665593 I'd recommend we follow the same naming, categorization structure and format as the archival videos and restrict or swap out the VR vids with clips or teaser vids after the 30 days. Would that make sense?

If there is a way to have the event extend for 30 days so that it remains active I believe we'd just set the event end date to whatever is 30 days after the start; I'll verify with support if I don't find any documentation.

Under this scenario where people can access has a set start and end date, how long should folks have the ability to purchase tickets/access? For instance, can they purchase up until the end date?

roccosomazzi commented 4 years ago

Well, I think I'm going to wait at least a few months before posting the VR video for free otherwise the people who paid might feel cheated. People should have the ability to purchase and access the video for 30 days.

People should have the ability to purchase and access the video for 30 days.

So using https://commerce-angelcityjazz.pantheonsite.io/calendar/chromaticitytrio/ as an example -

If that's the case we can adjust the membership rules.

I'm not suggesting keeping the VR video up for free - but replacing with a clip..similar to what's being displayed on the other archival videos.

roccosomazzi commented 4 years ago

Ok sounds good. Once people purchase the access they can view it for 30 days.

That's the ideal, right? 30 days access from the purchase date. What's making things confusing is when the 30 day access starts for those who purchase before the release date. Based on what Woo support mentioned in the email I think we can have the membership for an event publish on the release date - so the 30 day access would begin on that date.

For those who purchase after, the 30 days would begin immediately after purchase.

I'll followup with WooSupport if this is the ideal - just to make sure this is the best way to accomplish.

roccosomazzi commented 4 years ago

Hi Gus, the start of the 30 day period is always the release date. If somebody buys a ticket 28 days after the release, they will only get 2 days to see it. Each video is only available for 30 days after it’s release no matter when people buy access.

So the rules as are already set up should accommodate this.

Main thing I was unclear in my question here https://github.com/OpenProducer/angelcityjazz/issues/6#issuecomment-684036028 was if/when to end sales. How close to the end date do we want to provide the ability to purchase access?

For example - what should we enter for https://commerce-angelcityjazz.pantheonsite.io/calendar/chromaticitytrio/

Of course the ticket sales by default stop at the event start date - I left a follow-up w/ support to see if there's a workaround. https://support.theeventscalendar.com/ticket_G2VJHPFhLnJ66Dm2

I've got another idea if that doesn't work...

gusaus commented 4 years ago

...with regards to the festival pass - what is the ideal?

  1. provide access to all VR videos from the date of the first release to 30 days after the last? so within that timeframe each video would be available for 30 days beginning on its release date
  2. make all videos available (beginning on their release date) though 30 days after the last release
  3. something else?

I think #1 would be the most straightforward. Either way, I'll followup with Woo support to verify we're properly setting up.

Hey Rocco -

Circling back to issue with a question related to Vimeo https://github.com/OpenProducer/angelcityjazz/issues/8. Did we ever discuss or have you considered using Vimeo on Demand? Skimming through some of these links, it seems like their platform provides most/all of the monetization options we've been discussing in addition to video hosting and distribution.

https://vimeo.com/ondemand https://vimeo.com/ondemand/startselling https://help.vimeo.com/hc/en-us/categories/204059588-Selling-Videos

Mentioning this because I'm concerned about how the site will perform without additional hosting and sysadmin resources once we roll out the eCommerce and have hundreds of users.

Offloading the commerce, video hosting, and distribution would alleviate that concern and most likely would increase audience and revenue for the festival.

I'm planning on having the ecommerce flow set up and tested by weeks end either way. If something like Vimeo is a viable option we could roll in post-festival for a membership program and concerts.

roccosomazzi commented 4 years ago

I just signed up for a trial on Vimeo as we will definitely use it for hosting the videos. As for the monetization, I will check carefully what option they offer. WHat about all the work and money we spent on the woo commerce set-up?

THeir VOD option is quite simple although they keep 10% of sales. What would the flow be on our site? WOuld we still embed the vimeo video on each artist's video page or would we direct everyone directly to our Vimeo Page with all the videos?

Circling back to issue with a question related to Vimeo #8 https://github.com/OpenProducer/angelcityjazz/issues/8.

Here is the info on embedding VOD videos:

Embedding Vimeo On Demand videos

You can sell your Vimeo On Demand titles by embedding videos from your VOD page across the web.

If you embed the videos from your VOD page on other websites, viewers will see the trailer for your title and will be able to rent or buy the videos right then and there.

If you're selling a Feature, we recommend embedding your Main Video. That way, viewers will see the trailer when they visit the page, and then they'll be able to watch the feature from that same spot once they make the purchase. (They can also watch it on Vimeo.com or from your VOD page, of course.)

If you're selling a Series, we recommend embedding your trailer or your first episode and then directing viewers to your VOD page (where the other episodes can be accessed).

WHat about all the work and money we spent on the woo commerce set-up?

Main issue is the current shared hosting and service plan potentially not being able to handle the traffic/users for the festival. We could roll in the ecommerce for membership plans, event tix, etc. after the festival when there's less demand.

And most likely there are ways we can integrate Vimeo VOD and incorporate into the commerce/membership flow.

gusaus commented 4 years ago

THeir VOD option is quite simple although they keep 10% of sales.

$5.99 price point instead of $5.00 would cover that. Again, I think the additional distribution options (including embedding on our site) would increase the audience/purchasing potential.

gusaus commented 4 years ago

JustJazz just started using for their video embeds. http://www.justjazz.tv/ If this does seem like a viable option, I'll look deeper into how we can integrate into the site and possibly with the WooMembership plugin to display/hide content. Basically the functionality we're setting up now.

WooCommerce/WooCommerce Subscriptions/Name Your Price is already working on the live site for donations. So no $$/time wasted for any of those plugins.

gusaus commented 4 years ago

Seems like both use cases we're rolling out are covered https://vimeo.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/235698308-VOD-selling-options-rent-buy-subscribe

Rent: Viewers can rent your videos for a time period that you select, anywhere from one day to one year. People who rent your title can stream it during this time frame, but don't have the option to download it.

If you add a "Rent All" option to your Vimeo On Demand page, it gives buyers access to any videos you've added to the VOD page, as well as any additional videos or bonus features you add during the specified viewing period. This can be anywhere from one day to one year from the date of the purchase.

gusaus commented 4 years ago

More functionality we've been looking to incorporate

gusaus commented 4 years ago

If you're selling a Feature, we recommend embedding your Main Video. That way, viewers will see the trailer when they visit the page, and then they'll be able to watch the feature from that same spot once they make the purchase.

So this type of embed would go on each festival video page - https://angelcityjazz.com/staging/6049/2020-vr-festival/

Possibly also on each corresponding event page.

gusaus commented 4 years ago

Hey Rocco -

I noticed you're starting to use Vimeo (and 'Lroy Downs' should be 'LeRoy'). https://vimeo.com/456037101

Do you want to embed these interviews (didn't realize you were still doing these!) on the associated event and video pages? These could also be their own post.

Have you been able to determine if Vimeo VOD would be a good option for the festival vids? The more I look, it really seems like they cover all our use cases (another example):

https://vimeo.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/235764787-Start-selling-with-Vimeo-On-Demand

Bonus content is free by default, but you can choose to put it behind the paywall on a video-by-video basis. For example, you could offer some free bonus videos and others that can only be watched after your buyer purchases the title itself.

Would also open up the possibility of being displayed or featured on their site (in addition to ours). https://vimeo.com/ondemand/discover https://vimeo.com/search/ondemand?q=music https://vimeo.com/categories/music

I'm assuming this means they would support at least the 360 vids you were planning on hosting on Vimeo. https://vimeo.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001878367-Selling-360-Videos-with-Vimeo-On-Demand

Are there any other drawbacks to using Vimeo for the festival and then WooCommerce + Event Tickets for memberships and concert tickets thereafter?

Hope things aren't too smoky down there in Oakland. Looks crazy!

I logged into your Vimeo account and added myself to the team. Looks like team members can't access the VOD settings (unless I'm missing a permissions setting) so I'm glancing over https://vimeo.com/ondemand/272955/settings/basic with your login.

Looks like it can provide the granular purchasing options you need -

On Demand Settings 2020-09-11 13-14-55

Main thing on the website is just to figure out where to embed.

Have you seen any potential pitfalls with this approach?

roccosomazzi commented 4 years ago

One drawback is that we can’t presell tickets. If we use VOD I would embed on the video pages not the event pages.

Wouldn't pre-orders do something similar? https://help.vimeo.com/hc/en-us/articles/235698908-Setting-up-pre-orders

Seems like we could embed the VOD on both - that way folks could also purchase/watch from the event.

Easy to test out options on our stage.

Also looking at how we could display/sell on the site or subdomain - https://help.vimeo.com/hc/en-us/articles/235767347-Selling-your-On-Demand-titles-outside-of-Vimeo

Cool. Did’nt know you could preorder. To avoid confusion I would post the videos on just one page. I wonder if the subdomain could be where all the videos live and each event page would link to that.

I don't think we can just add a VOD page to the main site, so subdomain would be the way to go. I could set up a subdomain just to see how that would work. What should we call the subdomain?

Yes - we can link to the videos from the event page - could display a button similar to what we were testing for virtual events.

Hi Gus, we shot all the videos and talked to the video guys extensively and here is what I think will be our final platform:

-veer.tv premium content. For people who have a headset (oculus or pico) we will be posting the full immersive VR videos on this platform also on a VOD basis. On our site we will need to post instructions on how to download the veer app and find our collection of videos there.

Veer has a little less functionality than Vimeo, so I will probably post and remove content manually to match the 30 days window for each video

So is Veer an additional download/purchase option? Not something that could be included with a Vimeo VOD?

Where do they get the app and purchase VOD content? Doesn't seem like is right? https://veer.tv/

Are we providing links and instructions to purchase/download the app on the event pages or just on the video page?

roccosomazzi commented 3 years ago

It would be a completely separate option from Vimeo. Veer is only for people who have a VR headset. The instructions on how to download the app and find iur content should be on each event page and also on the landing page. Basically whenever we post info about the Vimeo videos, we should always add that option as well
