The videos were resized to a maximum of 1200px in width (this is double the size at which they are displayed to account for high-res displays).
OGV is removed in favor of WebM - nowadays WebM + MPEG4 should cover 99% of browser/OS combinations. Furthermore it was difficult for me to export OGV with a good enough quality and small enough filesize.
The dowsizing naturally reduced the filesizes of the videos but the biggest gains come from tweaking the codec settings. The resulting files are 4-5 times smaller. The filesize could be reduced even more but artifacts start to become more noticeable. I think it's a good tradeoff between quality and size. Here are the settings I used when exporting with Handbrake:
