Understand your concern. Operators before they migrate to full openroadm solution may need to control brownfield equipment. However you must consider that OpenROADM is based on the disaggregation concept, where we clearly separate ROADMs and XPDRs. Then, if we consider some controllers that have the ability to handle both equipment based on OpenROADM and other equipments, I guess they will implement some other protocols or models to handle Brownfield equipment. My feeling is that having a brownfield equipment that implements an openroadm device model may not be a so common use case.
Currently, Node-type within Info container can be one of following types: XPDR, RDM or ILA. It would be of benefit to add another type (e.g. XPDR-RDM) which allows mix of node types. This is extremely important for customers brownfield networks which already deployed with both XPDR and RDM within same shelves.
