Experience the art of DJing live and song mixing through this workshop!

Abstract

Always wondered what DJs do turning all the knobs and pressing buttons on their seemingly super complicated equipment? Always wondered how DJs mix songs and create mashups that blend so well? Well, look no more and because we can teach you the necessary concepts on how to do those cool things! This event is an obligation-free introductory DJ mixing session for everyone who is interested to experience the art of DJing, regardless of their experience level.

Student Organisation organising this session

SUTD Scratch!

Session intent (what to expect)

Participants will learn about song structures and how DJs use these structures to mix different songs and genres. Participants will also learn various mixing skills such as understanding the equalizer, applying filters and effects as well as transition techniques!

No prior experience is needed to join this workshop as we will be covering everything from the basics! Participants are expected to have a flare for music and eager to learn more about DJing.

Session details

We would like to keep our audience size small so that we can teach our workshop more personally. From prior experience, we find that the maximum audience size that we can cater to is 10 pax, such that there is enough time for each participant to try out the equipment and experience live DJing for themselves.

We will hold the session at the Media Room in the Student Activity Centre. The room itself is Scratch's headquarter/training room, so we will not have an issue with any bookings. We are planning to hold a session on 30 May 2019, from 7 - 9 pm.

We are also planning to hold more sessions for those who are interested but are unable to join on 30 May, since our session size is small. We will update on the timing of these extra sessions soon.

Speakers/Workshop facilitators

The facilitators will be our existing exco club members who have had experience in DJing for school events, private events, bars and even clubs nationwide.

Logistical details

All the equipment required are already inside the Media Room. We will only need 10 plastic chairs for the participants. We will also require a budget of $50 for drinks and light refreshments, if possible.
