Garmin HomePort for Mac .gmap or .gmapi file support #2

Could generated files be exported to .gmap or .gmapi format for installation and import to Garmin HomePort for Mac and other applications? In most cases a windows installer is limited to Windows computers, the .gmap and .gmapi formats are from Garmin meant to be platform independent, and should work with any Garmin Map display and Map Installation software independent of OS platform.

As far as I know, the mkgmap tool is used to generate the charts in Garmin format. From the website, I don't see anything about .gmap or .gmapi file format support.

Being a Linux-only user, I don't know anything about HomePort for Mac - I'm always using the MS-variant of the OpenSeaMap Garmin-charts in combination with Qlandkarte GT. This works by simply unzipping the archive and then opening the .tdb file. No weird "installation" or whatsoever required.

Does HomePort support reading this format? If no, would Qlandkarte GT be a viable alternative for you?

1) Project such as garmin.openstreetmap.nl are able to generate .gmap from .img tiles generated by mkgmap, so I see no reason we shouldn't be able to do it 2) .gmap and .gmapi format let me organize maps and install on my devices with software from Garmin, I would be able to open and browse the files with Qlandkarte, and I could organize my devices manually, but I see no point in having to do that with the best map, when the second best works directly. 3) If you are not able to test, I am willing to do all testing with files, actually I would be actively using the files both as an aid in my work and as a hobby.

Hum, I totally forgot about that site. As they're stating "Generic Nautical (non-routable)" among the choices (greyed out in my case), maybe we could just contact them if they're interested to do the map-generation for us? Do we have any contact to the people running that site?

Generating Garmin charts is currently mostly looked after by Christian Wagner. I can check back on the server that is doing this job for the scripts and will add them to this repository here...
