Alainbasstard commented 6 years ago

Every time i try to make an animated title i get the message i have to check the path to blender. No matter how many times i put in the correct path it tells me to make sure the path is correct. ( which it is ) i have Blender 2.7.9 capture

Geoffphuket commented 6 years ago

I have exactly the same issue

KidsDontPlay commented 6 years ago

does it work without quotation marks?

Geoffphuket commented 6 years ago

You don't add quotation marks

KidsDontPlay commented 6 years ago

I know. but in the image the path contains quotation marks

I put in a change to have browse buttons in future. This will work better in newer releases: https://github.com/OpenShot/openshot-qt/pull/2255

This is some terrible programming and should be fixed immediately. If this is so important to the use of animated titles and other items, it should come preconfigured correctly. The ability to change should have a search button. I have 2 computers, both running Ubuntu 18.04. It works on one but not on the other and I can't get it to work on the one that it doesn't.... no documentation, no help.. not a good piece of work folks.. and I was in computers for over 35 years.. software development and engineering.

@kd4epg - It has been fixed in the latest daily builds. Please switch to the daily PPA. OpenShot is a labour of love, made by volunteers and polished by contributors. If you want it to get better, perhaps you should join us; submit Pull Request, good bug reports, etc. New contributors are always welcome. Here's a good place to start: https://www.openshot.org/static/files/user-guide/developers.html#developers

It still does not work.

I have gone so far as to use another hard drive, completely reinstall Ubuntu 18.10, install the openshot from the ppa, which didn't work, then I installed it from the terminal, it didn't work, I run it from a flash drive created by the latest daily build of applimage and it still doesn't recognize where blender is..

It appears it has not been fixed..

I understand the labor of love. I have been involved in shareware type efforts many times. Some were quite profitable, actually, others not so much. I really am not able to do much but I will report on the software, the good, the bad and the ugly... this one is the ugly..

That is most certainly strange.

Question: While doing it from the PPA, did you use the daily one or the stable one? You should be using the daily one. Secondly, blender that you are using must be 2.79b or something similar (not the 2.8 beta one).

Could you please attach some screenshots so that we can understand this better? It would be a lot helpful for the devs.

Also, a small clarification: OpenShot is not a Shareware or even a Freeware, neither a Donationware; it is Free Software. Free Software means that you have the following freedoms:

Freedom 0: The freedom to run the program for any purpose.
Freedom 1: The freedom to study how the program works, and change it to make it do what you wish.
Freedom 2: The freedom to redistribute and make copies so you can help your neighbor.
Freedom 3: The freedom to improve the program, and release your improvements (and modified versions in general) to the public, so that the whole community benefits.

Yes, OpenShot is ugly right now. But it is up to us, the users, to help make it better. That is why I volunteer to do whatever little I can - answering people here in the forums, taking note of the bugs that pop up the most, do some tests, etc - so that the devs and other contributors might be able to make it better.

I hope you will also join us someday.

Anyways, please do keep on reporting bugs and providing us with further constructive criticisms so that we may be able to, in the best of our limited abilities, make some progress regarding that.
