Open meeting for schools/universities - September 2023 #17

Hi @OpenSourceMycetoma/corecontrib and others,

we've been discussing how we need to have another schools meeting to talk about who is making what aminothiazoles where. Please comment below to let me know what time/day suits you best to get together and chat about this!

(Also please tag anyone who is involved in making molecules with students that is not in the core contrib team.)

Hi! I'm teaching at 9am on all of those days sadly but could do 10am on the 27th or 28th if that is an option?

It sounds like 10 am UK / 7 pm AUS on Thursday 28 September is a good time for everyone - I'll give it another day or so and then make a zoom meeting / calendar invite.

Hi all - sorry, I'm an apology for the meeting - I've a clash - but hopefully everyone interested in schools/crowd projects can make it. It'll be really good to decide on new targets in whatever series. I'll spread the word.

I don't think I will be there for the meeting but I had wondered about possibly having one or two students from the school groups to do a side project to make the pair of S3 phenothiazines that I think that would complement the NEU tricyclic library well

(these are all one step to make from phenothiazine powder)

I’m planning to be at the meeting tomorrow. We are getting started on our group project next week and are hoping to synthesise the phenothiazines.

@JuliaSarju since it is only a pair of molecules might not be bad to give a pair of students them to make and then have the rest work on aminothiazoles

@MFernflower the structures look pretty insoluble. What are the cLogP's?

Swissadme says 3.47 for the freebase of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fenethazine

as for the phenethyl compound it is 4.94 but I have some other ideas for N-alkyl-phenothiazines that might be better

e.g https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/compound/2-_10H-Phenothiazin-10-yl_ethanol

I will try to go to the meeting - again the main focus is aminothiazoles - I just thought it would be good as a small side project to work on N-alkyl-phenothiazines since they are easy to make but cost a ton to buy from suppliers and I have zero lab access at the moment
