The Emerging Unikernel Ecosystem #2

Dennis Ritchie and Ken Thompson gave birth to a system <3'd by every hacker since forever. The system they designed, however, was for multiple users and multiple processes since the PDP-7 cost around 1/2 Million dollars. It had to have these features.

Today we live in the "cloud". As engineers we go out of our way to not have these features. We already separate processes by their function and we have virtualization everywhere we look. Forget cattle - we are in a sea of servers and companies are still getting owned left and right -- even worse than the wild wild west of hacking in the late 90s.

It's time for a new paradigm - it's time for the unikernel.

We'll discuss how we got to this point and what is possible with unikernel based infrastructure today and what is missing. We'll confront the rumors and explain the hype and look at what lays ahead in the next few years for this emerging new world.

Unikernels present an unrivaled opportunity for the open source hacker as everything from continuous delivery to testing to monitoring and beyond has to be completely revisited.

Infrastructure as we know it will never be the same again.

Hi Ian. We're gearing up for the next OSSAT on Fri 6/9 in downtown SF at Google Launchpad. Would love to have you attend and there are a few community speaking spots left if you have something you'd like to talk about this year around :)

http://opensourceshowandtell.com for all the infos.

Even if you can't attend helping us get the word out by telling a friend or posting to some social media would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if you have any questions at all.
