Feature request: Temperature restriction #78

Currently there is a California restriction as only option.

I'd like to request a temperature restriction. When temperature drops below 5 degrees Celcius the grass doesn't grow anymore and there is a risk of freezing the nozzles.

So when temperature is below a value, do not irrigate. Would this make sense?

Sounds useful to me. In Oregon, we have a dark season. So right about this time of year, I just disable all the zones and remember to come back in the spring.

HoECoder commented 5 years ago

I'd agree with that. Here in Minnesota, I manually disable all my programs about the second week of October, right around blow-out time. I then also disconnect the zone hookups from the controller.

The Zimmerman method kinda-sorta will get it to zero this time of year, but no guarantee. The pipes aren't likely to freeze, but icing in the heads isn't unheard of.

This would be a very useful feature.

I use OpenSprinkler also for filling the watering troughs in the paddocks for the horses. During wintertime I feed a lot of hay which makes the horses drink more as hay is dry. It would save me time when OpenSprinkler keeps this system running until the temperature drop below zero and the system will freeze up.

My OpenSprinkler watered this morning when it was 25F outside. My grass is covered in ice and there are icicles on the fence. It's April 5th, some may call it spring, but even so where I live it's common get still get a random day or two like this early in the season. There's even snow in today's forecast. OpenSprinkler really should be smart enough to know not to water below freezing, yet it had a 77% water level in these conditions.

You can see in this screenshot that it has a current temperature of 25F in the background on the main page which contradicts the weather service low of 37F.
