  • Hotfixing effects arising from PR #30 directly on master and deploying as it's currently broken on live
  • Controls could definitely be uncoupled at this point, that's how the 2021 v5 build worked.
  • Working on touch controls
    • Fixed rotation control position
    • Adding deactivation function and calls to activate/deactivate
      • Had issues removing and adding UI elements as they attach stuff to the window and don't have a way to detach so I'm just hiding the controls when not in use. Seems to hold up in testing

TODO:

• Fix regression on keyboard movement when touch controls rotate the camera
• Implement movement controls using touch
• Add new slider controls for elevator and camera distance from aircraft controls
• Add orbit controls back in for keyboard and mouse
  • Remove rotation control from touch controls if it's too similar

  • Fixing regression on keyboard movement when touch controls rotate the camera
    • Looking at the issues at hand I think that the touch controls just need to be rebuilt and integrated better within the engine.
    • Integrated the Touch Controls code and assets and removed the rest
    • Tweaked rotation to modify the camera's original rotation and it's already better, albeit different now it's doing a look around instead of rotation around the ship - maybe preferrable at this point.

  • Added check for whether rotation pad is being used to stop the camera reset from fighting the user input, works well although kinda awkward it lets you loop around over and over till you let go of the controls but that can be tweaked later...
  • Implementing movement controls using touch
    • Got the touch movement pad hooked up in a rudimentary way but there's something wrong with the way the ship is moving. When just trying to move forward it keeps veering to the left and it can barely turn right
    • Adding TweakPane tracking variables, and some structure to the debugging mode to make it easier to see what's going on
    • Fixed the turning issue but the way that the touch controls work is probably clashing and causing unnecessary calculations to happen. e.g. it needs hitTest on which implies it's calculating rays for collisions, if I switch hitTest off the camera starts to fly forward which isn't ideal
      • Cleaning up unused code in the touch controls
  • Implementing a new slider stick touch control using rotation pad as a base
    • Prototyping the look and feel using CSS and tweaks to original code
  • Fine tuning the movement controls
    • Looking good but I can't seem to use the direction pad and elevator controls at the same time... did my best to alleviate but more work could be done

The camera controls could use more work - they should rotate around the aircraft rather than look around.

The look around could make sense inside the airplane cockpit or while controlling a character who is walking around.
