Thanks @Kissaki for sharing this very valid concern!
We are aware that the Contribution Tool is not currently made visible. That is out of intention, as it currently has several limitations. First of all, its user interface is not simple enough for most users to use it without a short training. We are thus wary of having too many low quality contributions that we could not handle properly. Second, it currently has limited awareness of collections: only by changing a URL parameter can users change the target collection. Without discoverability, we anticipate many misdirected contributions. Finally, the codebase is of limited quality and has not been tested properly for scale nor for edge cases and thus relies on dedicated support that we cannot offer at scale within our current resources.
Our current idea is to consider this version of the contribution tool as a proof of concept that serves well for dedicated, trained teams, and to use the learnings we collected through its usage as a base for building a new crowdsourcing UI. We are currently raising funds for building this new crowdsourcing UI and will hopefully be able to start work on it in the next month 🙂
As far as I can see the Contribution Tool is not mentioned on
It is linked to in declarations issues.
Given that the Contribute Tool is lower barrier to entry and seemed to be the preferred / to be pushed contribution workflow it should probably be mentioned and linked in those places?
