+1 requested by TreeFolks, Rockford, Dale Carlon
@jmorrison1847, with the current comment system, all comments are visible to all users. In the scenario you propose, comments would be used by work crews to coordinate tree work. If the tree map is (or might become) publicly accessible, is it OK that all such comments could be seen by all users? If not we would need some type of permission mechanism on comments or introduce a different system for "internal comments".
I would also like to clarify what is meant by "appear as an alert in the management page"
@RickMohr I hadn't thought of that, but you are right—setting permissions on comments like other field types would be important. In the short-term, most of these groups plan to keep their maps private anyway, but we want to ease them into the idea that exposing a limited view of their map to the public is good overall.
@jwalgran By "alert in the management page" I really just mean that they would appear under the Community Management tab as they currently do, with a colored bubble notification and number next to the section "Comments".
+1 I'd like to loop this bad boy back in. Just got a question from Kawartha Lakes about it; Sacramento Tree Foundation, Dale Carlon, and TreeFolks have also requested it in the past.
With more and more users focused on updating tree records from the field and logging/referencing colleagues or volunteer coordinators remotely, the ability to add comments to a tree record (that appear as an alert in the management page) becomes increasingly sought-after.
