Possible Revisions of Synthetic Tree [Pinaceae] #274

Open im4ku3 opened 8 years ago

The arrangement of this node may not entirely agree with current(May 2016) phylogenetic analyses. Specifically, this topology does not accurately place subsections Strobus,Krempfianae, and Gerardianae as a monophyletic group. In addition, many groupings noted here do not seem to agree with Hao et al. 2015 (by Z.-Z. Hao et al. / Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution 87 (2015) ).

I checked in OToL the status of this study, searching doi: 10.1016/j.ympev.2015.03.013, and the curator @im4ku3 indicates the impossibility to upload trees in a proper format, so only jpg files were uploaded. I guess this means the tree cannot be used for synthetic OToL, right @jar398 ?
I searched for data on this study in treeBASE and dryad, but it is not available. Could we find a way to help the curator to upload the trees in a format useful for OToL? Thanks!

Hi, It is probably worth sending an email to to the corresponding author. Alternatively (if the tree is not too big) it may be possible to reconstruct the tree using tree manipulation software like Mesquite. Starting from a tabular listing of the taxa, this reconstruction by hand is tedious and error-prone, but not too bad for small numbers of tips. There has been some work on pulling trees from images (cf. https://riojournal.com/article/13589/ ), but we have not used that in open tree (yet). Mark
