remapping OTUs #562

on the Zanne et all plant study only 8777 / 31749 or (28%) of the OTUs are mapped. I looked a few of the terminal species and they are in GBIF. Is remapping OTUs done occasionally? Can it be done with a script across all projects? (I now see that it was last remapped 4 years 10 months ago). i logged in and remapped two species and they mapped according to the GBIF taxonomy as viewed in Checklistbank.

Is it OK if I remap the 72% unmapped and see what happens? I assume that these would be available to next synthesis build.

It seems there could be a big improvement if everything is remapped because the taxonomy has improved. I am curious how many of the 72% will now map. If most do map, that would be a great indicator of positive unintended consequences of improving the (ott/)GBIF taxonomy.

I am looking around to see how much work it would be to do a plant collection and custom synthesis. I would like to identify a few large projects and then add on family specific studies ( and then run in the PD pipeline we built).
