Minify/compress Images #917

Why is this feature being added?

It looks like a lot of images used on the site are not optimized. The homepage pulls in ~3.5MB, and that's hurting the site's desktop score badly on pagespeed insights. It looks like that can be cut down to 2.0MB.

What should your feature do?

Optimize images in use.

We're aware of this issue! Thank you for documenting it. We already have a script in place to prevent further large images, but we need to downscale the big dumb images already in place.

@thoughtbyte you’re more than welcome to submit a PR of reduced image sizes. Keep in mind it shouldn’t be a blanket reduction of some percentage. The biggest culprit is a MASSIVE image that’s only visible within a small circle. It’s actual dimensions should be reduced and the image should be severely reduced. I think it’s around 400kb right now, but it should be more like 30.
