"Thanks for signing up" not visible after signing up #646

For a bug: As a visitor, When I go to the home page and sign up It shows a notice thanking me for joining, but it's hidden under the navbar It should be visible

In Chrome:

In Safari:

In Firefox:

I was able to reproduce this in development.
