Thanks for bringing this up. We know about this issue, and it is two fold.

One issue is that an ARP DOS can occur in version 1.1 due to an issue in
arpmitm.py (more prevalent on a VM) see:
35 Defect Accepted Critical ---- topher.shields ARPMITM stability and
reliability

The Second issue is with VMs this issue seems to occur most often in VMWare
Fusion version 4.x.x This error occurs intermittently, and it is possible to
run Subterfuge in VMWare workstation. If you could list your VMWare version we
would appreciate the broader perspective it might give us. In test cases on
Windows 7 running VMWare Workstation 8.0.0 we did not observe this issue, and
we never encountered this issue on a natively installed platform.
This issue has also occurred for when running an ARP Poison attack from a
VMWare Fusion virtual machine with arpspoof, ettercap, and cain. This led us to
believe that it was an issue in VMWare's ability to handle a MITM Position. We
are currently working on a fix; however, we do not have an ETA on when it will
be implemented.

Synopsis: Subterfuge WILL work in a virtual machine, but VMWare does not always
appreciate ARP Cache Poisoning. Attempt to restart the system/ restart VMWare
alternately play around with VMWare's adapter configurations or install
natively (where possible)

If we develop a fix for the second issue, or if VMWare patches themselves we
will be certain to notify you. We are currently testing fixes for the first
issue, and you can expect that to be released along with Beta version 2.0 in
the near future.

We are currently looking into a fix. We are also planning on creating a native
Mac application soon once the Linux version is more stable. Thanks for the info
since we haven't tested it yet on Virtual Box.
