Building using MPLAB X IDE #344

I'm going to fork Optiboot to add support for atmega32u4 with RS485 (I did a long search but seems nobody did it before). Since I use Ubuntu I cannot install AtmelStudio.

Is it possible to build the project using MPLAB X IDE v6? Before asking dumb questions, is there a tutorial that explain how to add a new MCU?
