I'm glad it helped! Most problems people have are directly tied to this issue. Unfortunately there is little I can do to automate this.
Is there an explanation why some need to enable it on public networks, while others don't? E.g. I have two machines, on one it works with GWSL enabled on private only, on the other I had to enable it for public too. The only difference I can see between the two is that the one where it works on private has Win 10 Pro, while the one where it doesn't has Home. Otherwise, it's exactly the same Build versions.
Is the Pro machine using wsl 1?

Nice catch, indeed it looks to have v1, based on output of wsl -l -v
.
Yep. Only wsl2 needs public access.
It has to do with WSL2's virtual network showing up as public for some reason. I do not completely understand how it works.
I am a real newcomer to all this exciting stuff. I installed GWSL this afternoon and it has installed correctly however I too am having a problem. When I select the Linux Apps option I just get a spinning icon and no apps showing. All other options seem to work OK. I believe I have correctly ensured that my firewall is not blocking any of the .exe files but I still get the spinning icon. I saw an earlier mention of a GWSL_instance.exe file but I cannot locate that file to ensure the firewall is not blocking it.

Did you change your default shell in WSL?
Duh, I don't think so - I would not know how to. I told you I was a novice. LOL

I am really busy with classes this week, but could you attach the dashboard.log file you get from GWSL --> about --> get logs.
I am all sorted now. I reinstalled both WSL and Ubuntu followed by GWSL and it seems to be working fine now. Thanks. Apologies for taking up your time unnecessarily.

No worries :) I'm glad it is working now!
Hi all,
I am using GWSL on Debian distribution on WSL2. I have the same problem, but I have debuged it to resolv.conf - my openconnect VPN client replaces the original value of nameserver by the ones in the company network. Is there another way to get the right IP address?
Thank You for Your support, Tomas Tudja
Hey Tomas. There is a way but unfortunately, I do not know enough networking to write a solution. I have another person on the discord server who brought this up and I think they might know the solution but I am pretty busy at the moment.
And I am always open to contributions in this area :)
Any of the linux apps is not opening from "linux apps" section. Is there any step which I might me missing. I have wsl2 with ubuntu 20.04 and its completely working in terminal and also I have xfce gui and its also working.
Edit: Just found that I can open apps through the "linux shell" and also the resolution is low but isn't it supposed to also open apps through "linux apps" section. Also can I also open the xfce gui through this app or in this case I am limited to windows "remote desktop connection" app.
