What HW and FW are you running? Is it possible to update the kernel? I could attempt to add a new feed, but currently we're lacking free disk space on the builder to do so. Also, old kernels is a real pain. Adding armv5 legacy feed was probably the most painful thing I've done in the scope of optware  I'm lacking on time resources to allocate for such a task. Also, I'm not sure it's worth it: afaik, most ppc 603e devices run at least 2.6.32 kernels, and are hence compatible with current feed.
The H/W is a Synology NAS (DS209j) and FW 4.2 (last release). So no way to update the kernel. I had some hope when I saw there was a legacy arm5 feed. But I understand if its out of scope.
For old machines with older kernels (2.6.24) could you consider building a PowerPC 603e: Legacy bootstrap like you did for arm5?
I tried to install PowerPC603e bootstrap but got several 'FATAL: kernel too old' as sh script ran.
