Agencies and freelancers section in the docs under Community #14964

Open Piedone opened 6 months ago

Piedone commented 6 months ago

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

There are several companies and individuals working with Orchard Core who offer OC services to others as well. However, there's not really a more straightforward way to discover them than a Google search.

Describe the solution you'd like

Have a new page in the docs under the community section with a table to agencies and freelancers, a short description of what they do, and how to contact them.

Add a link to this page from the root Readme's Help and Support section.

Describe alternatives you've considered

Having the same on the website.

@xperiandri @jersiovic @ns8482e, @hishamco, perhaps?

hishamco commented 6 months ago

Agree with you Zoltan, looking for OC specialist sometimes headaches unless he is one of the team or Lombiq for sure :)

MikeAlhayek commented 6 months ago

IMO, this should be part of #13995 not part of the docs. Maintaining this could be a haste in OC docs. Maintaining these people as vendors in a separate project will be a good idea. It’s the same think as having trusted vendor and a list of their available free or paid projects.

Piedone commented 6 months ago

Why would it be a haste? There's no rush. And it's part of the community, so adequate under that section. It's also easy to let anyone edit it.

ns8482e commented 6 months ago

Not sure it's good idea - if orchard community should host vendors/freelancers directory in orchard repo?

It's hassle to manage on who decides what's gets into the list and what would be the criteria to be listed ?

Piedone commented 6 months ago

We accept or reject changes like any code changes, but there can be criteria upfront.

hishamco commented 6 months ago

Maybe we can dedicate a specific page on Orchard Core website something like Workshops

sebastienros commented 6 months ago

What do other CMS, not linked to business entities, do? WordPress for instance?

Piedone commented 6 months ago

For WP, there's a page for hosting partners, a jobs board, and for their enterprise tier a partner directory. Umbraco also has partners.

sebastienros commented 6 months ago

I don't think these examples reflect what we should have. I believe Umbraco's partners are "paid" partnerships, and also you have to go through some training and validation. We can't do that. Same for the example for WordPress. That's why I wanted to see what "others" do.

I think it would be fine to have such a page in the docs, driven by PRs, but the "there can be criteria upfront" is tricky. First to define, then to check, and then to revoke. An approach could be to start it and only deal with problems when they arise, even if it's realizing we should not have this page because it's problems we don't want to deal with.

Piedone commented 6 months ago

For the criteria, I thought about you having some publicly available demonstration of your Orchard Core capabilities (be it contributions, existing apps, open-source projects, or anything). And the barrier of entry would be basically yes/no, just to filter out people/companies who don't actually do anything with OC and are just looking for free links. If they do anything, welcome.

If anybody would like to get listed on the first version of this page, please let me know.

hishamco commented 5 months ago

As agency or freelancer?

Piedone commented 5 months ago

Both, we'd list both.
