There is an issue with this, though. Selling random things to guests is already considered OP. So probably the buying price should be a fair bit lower than the market value. And/or guests should be more picky about what they want to buy. They already prefer undamaged, high-quality items. Probably they should buy resources less often and care more about manufactured items.
I hope this won't make it into the mod. ATM sounds like a very urban, central banking type concept, Rimworld plays in a warring wasteland.
How about this: Guests can buy more stuff by simply taking more. The next time they come, they bring the extra silver to pay for it. This could be an optional toggle.
Thanks for chiming in. I'm curious if there's a more RimWorld befitting alternative that is equally useful.
Keep in mind that Rimworld allows much more than "warring wastelands". There are those that play with hotel runs, practically glitterworld tech mods (cough mechathrumbo cough), practically total conversion mods (like certain race mods out there), etc.
For vanilla Rimworld balance though, I think a banking approach can work, but there should be inherent drawbacks to it. Some idea:
A bank counter sounds fun too. It'd be a full-time job to be there and wait for guests to want money. That's a fair drawback for getting guests to spend more money. The ATM can be a higher tech tier.
I don't want to turn Hospitality into a full blown bank mod. One of the strengths of Hospitality is that it's setting agnostic, if I'm using that word correctly. As soon as I'm adding graphics I risk losing that.
I don't think a bank theft breakdown makes much sense, since usually silver is lying around everywhere anyway. Although it might be fun having to protect it from guests as well.
I could put the ATM / bank counter into an addon mod. I do worry a lot of people will miss out, though, and that makes it less worth to spend my time on it. But it might still be a good idea to keep base Hospitality pure.
Researchable technology. Happy guests will use them to withdraw more silver that they can then spend. It has to be refilled with silver by colonists. ATMs will internally track how much money is owed by other factions. When new groups arrive, they bring the owed money in silver and drop it for the player.
Maybe the player should be able to specify how much silver is stored in an ATM at any time.
