Search by city does not work #69

BUG, TODO or feature? Search by city does not seem to work

Detailed Bug Report

Searching in my city produces zero result. It might be due to case or missing info in the db. Could we have a full list of all existing cities in the db?

Steps to Reproduce

Enter Melbourne - Victoria - Australia in the city search and nothing will come up

Fetlife does not include the city of melbourne in userprofiles for australian users. You can only search for things that are included in fetlife profile data.

Basically city-search only works for countries of which fetlife lists the city on a userprofile such as the USA. As seen these pictures, users from Melbourne Australia are just listed as "Victoria, Australia" by fetlife. If you want your city to be included within your fetlife userprofile, it's something you need to take up with fetlife yourself.

Hi, thanks a lot for your detailed response. Could we then omit the city and search by area and country? That did not work either. Is there a way to wildcard/skip the city field?

If you don't fill a field in, it isn't searched. That goes for all fields.

Region + country works afaik, used it myself a few weeks ago...

I checked your report: It does take a long time (which is a known bug), but on windows and chrome latest I have no problem searching for Victoria Australia

I tried all sort of combination both with the stand alone script and the grease monkey extension but I could not make it work. Could you please try again? Thanks

stand alone script? What are you talking about? All sorts of combinations? You shouldn't, you should just use it like I told you. Other combinations wont work anyway. Victory Australia case sensitive.

I tested it and it worked before. I'm currently busy with other projects and not interested in confirming it again.

Besides: As I told many times, all this code is depricated and not maintained. A new version is already mostly finished and just needs review.

Okey, I'm kinda done with this now. It works fine (albeit takes quite long):

Please come back when you have found the cause of either your bug, more info about the cause or a way to reproduce.

Don't be me at me, it does not work with my browser/extension combination. I'll try another browser...

I'm not mad at you, it's just not repeatable and you ignored my thorough request for information earlier.

If you cant previde either steps to reproduce or at least the minimum information required, it's not a valid bug report.

So unless you add the required information and/or steps to reproduce, please don't bother responding.

Hi, so a basic search like this:

Will produce zero results for me.

I am on Mac catalina 10.15.2 Chrome 79 And tampermonkey 4.9

Let me know if there is any other info you need from me, to help with triage

How long did you wait? Until it finished Did you switch tabs? Yes I did What region and country did you enter? Victoria, Australia Did you add any other search terms? I tried with and without, same blank result

I found the issue:

Sexual orientation does not seem to be scraped anymore, so if you use it you are not going to get anything in the report.

Sexual orientation should still be scrapped, but ONLY on full profile scrapes. if it doesn't thats a bug indeed. I'll look into it once 0.6 is merged. It might even already be fixed there.

It was working before not sure how it broke. I have to think the info is not being scraped nomore..

I know it was being scraped earlier (its actually one of the values I did test)... It might be that fetlife changed something and it isn't scraped anymore...
