Initial PR for model structure.

Don't merge yet. I'll be cleaning this up a bit.

Ok... this is shaping upp. What do you say ? Fix the naming of interfaces first, then merge this, or the other way around.

Hi @ellis- I've just created a new branch to work on the new additions and update unit tests... Can you please submit the pull request to the new branch? I think i can merge it manually but probably you will lose your working history on these changes...
