Grouping by folder? #198

This is an amazing skin for foobar2000 and I've been looking for it. The problem is that the album view has some kind of issue. I just grouped by only album for simple sake. When I sorted by genre at the left-hand side menu, Eole shows multiple album artworks even though the songs are in the same folder. Of course, I checked the tag and there was no problem.
How do I fix it?

Ottodix commented 2 years ago

So you used a custom grouping for the middle panel. Can you show me the 2 lines that you used ? (While on the library tab, right click over the middle panel > settings > group by > custom titleformat)

Hi, Ottodix. Thanks for the quick reply. Here is the screenshot you requested: foobar foobar2 As you can see, the Rock Ballads albums show multiple artworks. But most of them are in their folders.

I can't see anything wrong based on your screenshot. According to your settings, 2 consecutive tracks would end up in the same group only if their album name match exactly. I can't say for the Ultime Rock Ballads... groups of you screenshot, don't they have a different album name, like Ultime Rock Ballads 1, Ultime Rock Ballads 2, or Ultime Rock Ballads vol1, Ultime Rock Ballads vol.1 (just a simple dot is enough to make a difference)

I definitely checked the album tag several times, but all of them are fine. I've been working on it for 7 hours so far. The songs of Rock Ballads 1 are all in the Rock Ballads 1 folder. I even changed the album tag for every song in case you discussed. Thus, it should be shown only one Rock Ballads 1 artwork, but it shows multiple artworks with a single song as you can see. They are all separated. But it doesn't happen to every album, but specific ones. The Rock Ballads series are a good example, so I took their screenshot. Is there any option to group by folder?

And how is populated the %album artist% tag ? The genre filter on the left menu sort song by %album artist% | %date% | %album% | %discnumber% | %tracknumber% | %title%.

So if you used the %album artist% tag for the artist of one song, instead of the artist for the whole album (as it should be), then the genre filter won't send a list of songs in the right order, and you will end up with splitted albums as you have. Personally for the "compilation albums" which contain multiple artists, I simply put "Various artists" for the %album artist% tag.

Ok, I tried it and it worked a little bit. I mean, some files are collected properly, but some of them are still separated.

Ottodix commented 2 years ago

So I think there isn't any bug there. I close this ticket. You've got the sorting order above for the genre ta. There is the %date% also which is used before the %album% name, so it can split albums. You can change that by:

Ottodix commented 2 years ago

And if you want to sort by folder, you can use the library tree on the left menu (you can change how the library tree display tracks using the button on the top-right. There is a "View by folder structure")

I just found that the files are scattered even if the year or other info are different, even though I set the album artist. But I don't wanna change the year and genre. I know Library Tree view, but can't find "View by folder structure". Where is it exactly?

right clic > settings > view by...
