6 years ago "MSYS2" is a name which encompasses two different technologies:
- mingw setup - allows building native windows programs using the mingw-w64 toolset/headers (without MSVC compiler and tools). This one is not unique to MSYS2 and can used in other environments, like during cross building for windows on linux or elsewhere.
- POSIX/Linux emulation environment which is basically cygwin. In this environment the goal is to emulate linux headers, signals, tools, etc (and xlib/xserver). I don't think PCSX2 should be targeting this environment because it doesn't make too much sense IMHO (if you want to run PCSX2 on windows, PCSX2 already supports native windows builds and the POSIX emulation doesn't add anything meaningful).
And 2.5, MSYS2 also supports posix tools such as shell and other command line tools, and is available both in "mingw mode" and in "cygwin mode".
mingw support could be useful to build PCSX2 without the microsoft toolset, but it's not unique to MSYS2, and can be setup on any linux/BSD etc system.
So if anything, what this issue should be about is to make sure mingw (w64) is supported.
