GRID model - stand alone capability

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.  Attempting to run GRID model on laptop NOT on BES network

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Desire to run GRID model interface on laptop OFF BES network.  I realize
this is counter to original design, but size of recent model and system
instabilities (likely with workstation) required moving to laptop for model
runs.  This was not possible with what appeared to be hard-wired references
to the network that prevented the interface to launch without network drive
present.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Latest version of GRID interface.  Win XP/SP2.  Office 2001 (before 2003
upgrade by GTS on 12/3/2009)

Please provide any additional information below.
Investigations and tinkering with code, registry, and config files could
not decouple the network dependency with the current interface version
