French translation #187

Hi, i'm Zil,

First of all, I'd like to thank you very much for what you did, and by you, i
mean the whole 'evochamber' team. This is a very good job. I guess there always
be something to update/upgrade, and that's why i'm here.

This is a very simple suggestion :
Do you want the software to be translated in french?

About myself :
My name is Gil Sand, I'm 21 and I'm mostly spending my time on 3 things.
Gaming, Partying, and Skydiving. I've studied a few years doing math, then I've
worked in subtitling for 1 year, for a Belgian industry ( Belgium is where I
live now ) called Studio L'Equipe. My work was to sync & place the subtitles
correctly, and of course edit them if there was anything wrong with it (eg
translation). Now that I saved money, i'm in vacation for another year, and I
plan to spend it in the 3 things I like.

My e-life was fullfilled with joy : I started, like a lot of people, with Doom,
and enjoyed FPS till Half Life ( mod: Natural Selection) where I played in
team, top1 in Belgium, nicely ranked in Europe. Then I started RTS around 15YO
with Warcraft III, mostly DotA and sometimes laddering 1v1. I've been admin on
dota-league for 1 year, and kept playing DotA/HoN till SCII release. Now I'm
laddering 1v1, and started mapping.

About my language level

I totally master french, as i've been living in Belgium my whole life ( let's
round that to 20 years ) and had a nice education. For the other part my
english skills are pretty decent (i'm writing this, I guess you don't have a
hard time understanding it), and I'll be living in Australia now to improve
them.

I think it is something that you need, mostly because the french community is
slowly hearing about evochamber. Well, just thinking about it now, i could
actually talk about it here and there, I know a few places where it could get
some nice hits.
Whatever, this is not the point, the fact that you need this software in french
is yours to decide, I just personally think it would be a very nice choice, and
I'm looking forward to your answer.

This is me trying to help you, you can contact me here or at gsand.be@gmail.com
; I guess Facebook would work too, but I'd rather use PMs.

Thank you very much for your time,

Best regards,
Zil.

Sorry about the Defect tag, obviously it isn't.

Only members can change the issue type, which is why it shows up as Defect. :)

Thanks for offering to help! That would be great if you could do a French
translation. The process is pretty straight forward--just look at one of the
message files (listed below) and translate the text. Evolution Chamber
currently supports English, Korean, and German, so you can use whichever
language you are most comfortable translating from.

In terms of how the file is formatted, you must translate everything to the
right of the equals sign so:

history.delete=Delete

would be changed to

history.delete=Supprimer

(or whatever the right word for "delete" is in French :) )

English -
http://code.google.com/p/evolutionchamber/source/browse/trunk/EvolutionChamber/s
rc/java/com/fray/evo/ui/swingx/messages_en.properties
Korean -
http://code.google.com/p/evolutionchamber/source/browse/trunk/EvolutionChamber/s
rc/java/com/fray/evo/ui/swingx/messages_ko.properties
German -
http://code.google.com/p/evolutionchamber/source/browse/trunk/EvolutionChamber/s
rc/java/com/fray/evo/ui/swingx/messages_de.properties

You can post the final translated file here, or email it to me at
mike.angstadt@gmail.com.

I answered to the owner by mail already, ill just say it again here. im in
malaysia right now, im waiting for my plane to Sydney and ill start working in
something like two days from now. i guess two days should be enough to get
settled and to 'digest' the jetlag ^^

Have a nice day,
Zil

There's no rush. We don't want to make your traveling any more stressful than
it already is. The more relaxed you are, the better the translation is going
to be.

Okay here is the first version of the french file i've done.

Its not over yet, but i'd like to see it in the program to see if it fits ( the
buttons might be too smalls, stuff like that ).

I would certainly have to rename things, because what i did now was kind of
rough.
I've put words between " ----- " because i didn't know how to translate them,
googletranslation didn't either, and i'd like you to explain those words to me
so i can find a word in french that would fit.

1 :kjoonlee (----??Korean stuff??----)
2 :Cyrik (----Refactoring?----)
3 :stats.stagnationLimit=Limite de '-------stagnation??????-------'
4: '----checksum----'

And i've got a few other questions about some things but i'll ask later.
Sometimes ( since i'm just translating from the raw code ) i'm not sure if by
'build' you mean an actual building or the build order we're trying to create.
its just an example, i'll figure it out later by doing build orders and see
where is everything.

Tell me what you think, if possible, implant it and send me a 'private' version
so i can find new words.

Another thing : FailedToHaveRequired=Failed to have required
Does that make any sense, even in english? I feel like there is a word missing
after 'required', like, units, upgrades, build order, anything.

Anyway, this is getting long, just tell me what you think and if possible,
explain me the few things i showed above, so i can find a word that fits, in
french. Thank you for your time and your help :)

Thanks for the quick work. The words that you listed are sort of technical
terms, so they can probably go untranslated. The Korean text next to
kjoonlee's name I think is Korean for "Korean translation".

The "zerg.unit.UNITNAME.build" lines are actions--as in "build a Zergling". So
"build" is a verb.

The "FailedToHaveRequired" message isn't supposed to be a full sentence. It's
used to build a string such as "Failed to have required 5 Drones."

Attached is a build of Evolution Chamber that includes your translation.
Select "French" from the language drop down menu to load the French
translation. Thanks again and let us know if you have any more questions. No
post is too long.

A few things to report :
-Everything I translated appears in the software, except in the YABOT tab and
the Simple tab. The YABOT tab seems always unhappy, but I don't know anything
about coding, and I always try simple builds just to check if everything is ok.
-The language tab, every language require a capital letter, i can't change it
either

And another minor thing : I always have to work with the scrolls to find my
buttons, I don't know if that can be fixed somehow, but I have a lot of free
(grey/white) space and I can't see every button on one screen. I'm on 1280*800,
if it helps.

I've modified a few things here and there, nothing major, and when the things
i've mentioned above the french version will be ready for an official release.

Have a nice day :)

The problem you were having with the YABOT and Simple tabs may have been due to
the fact that the message file was missing a message string
("FailedToMeetWaypoint"). This can cause a simulation to break if it tries to
access the missing string while running.

Did you use a different text editor to create this file? I get some weird
characters when I open it.

Committed change. I was able to read the text file, Mike.

I was getting weird characters like È instead of é and ‡ instead of à.
Attention world: Just suck it up and use ASCII!! :-P

I used the windows notepad to edit, should i use something else and re-edit the
mistakes that the notepad created?

No, that's OK. I will have to try loading the file in different text editors.
