It doesn't have to be a separate "simulator", but has the following:
1. A "test connection", which uses the admin account to connect to the ECM
2. Always show the checkpoint (modified date of the last doc fed)
3. A "test feed" button, which forces the connector/connector manager to send a 
dummy 
feed.
4. A "test authentication" - to test any user's user name/password
